Los Angeles Angels Set Franchise Record for Losses, What Would YOU Say to This Team? Ohtani “Shade”

Did the Los Angeles Angels make history versus the White Sox? They did, and not the kind everyone thought they would when they entered this series. The Halos own the worst franchise record in history with 96 losses, after Tyler Anderson fell apart and Zach Neto was removed from the game with an injury. An ugly loss on an ugly day, it leaves us wondering where the Halos go from here. Mike and Jon discuss the loss and what it means moving forward in segment 1.

Then, we’re answering your Fanmail Friday questions and comments, including, what would you say to this team now that they’ve hit this point? Also, did Shohei Ohtani actually throw shade at the Angels, or is this yet another instance of putting words in his mouth? We’ll get into all of it and more on today’s Locked On Angels!

  1. This is rock bottom for sure, the only way we can go is up, it literally can’t get worse.

At least Tyler Anderson got close to 180 innings this year, which heavily increases his stock value if teams want him next year, but still this game had the worst possible outcomes, Neto got hurt, Anderson got shelled, Fulmer got shelled, the offense didn’t do jack, and it was the white Sox, that series sums up our whole season, and it’s not even close. At least the marlins are winning because we need those odds.

  2. Amazing what can happen in two years. What started with Arte looking to sell the team ends in him looking to settle "unfinished business", losing Ohtani to his most hated team down the road and now presiding over the worst record in franchise history thanks to one of the worst teams in MLB history. Yeah it stinks, but we all know it's what he deserves. You can't help but laugh.

Meanwhile, Petco Park is looking more and more enticing to me by the day.

  3. Well the only positive for me is I officially can call this season over now. Start the Angel hiatus early for the next 4 1/2 months to February to heal.

Early Christmas wish list: TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE AND START FROM SCRATCH

    1. Players gone- Suarez, Rosenberg, Quijada, Jack Lopez, LeBlanc, Wantz, Strickland, and Canning

    2. Trade- Ward, Detmers, Canning, Sandy Being Sandy, Kyren Paris, Jordyn Adams,Thaiss, Roansy, Kavadas and Moniak

    3. Extend- Rengifo, Wagaman, Campero, Stefanic and Teodosio
    4. Fire all Numbers Nerd Analytics
    5. Fire Mike Frostad, Dylan Cintula, and Mike Ocegura
    6. Hire an assistant hitting and pitching coordinators
Last but not least, say "WE ARE REBUILDING" officially

I know this is my last rant for the season. And again my personal opinion. Until next February, I hope you the best… GO ANGELS

  4. These 2 bros have no clue about what they are talking about. At what level did you 2 bros play baseball? You don't understand the game or why players "say
the right thing about their manager". The young players like Detmers and others have been destroyed. The facts are the facts. Ron Washington and his staff of buffoons (including admin) will get the Angels nowhere. I'm taking bets anytime boys

  5. I hear what you're saying about the Dodgers and ROI with Ohtani. But… unless they win a couple of WS in his tenure, it's a huge squash. Just couldn't overcome such an on-field disaster with simply the financial return, especially for their fans. No way even just one title is acceptable, IMO.

  6. Bottomline of everything that has happened so far is Arte being incompetent. Orioles turned their team around, it is not impossible for the Angels if the owner and the all the staff will be competent to help the minor leagues develop and make the team win.

  7. Thanks for the shoutout guys! Re the Royals, they also have the fortune of playing in the AL Central. That's a good reason how they can turn a 56-win season into a playoff run.

  8. Why are you putting Nolan Schanuel in the same pssitive category? Of the 26 MLB first basemen that qualified for the batting title, he was ranked 19th. He was lousy all year, save for a 5-6 week stretch in the middle of the season. He only merits another chance, going forward, because it was his frist full year of MLB, so, maybe he turns it around. Given the Angels' young pitching projected for 2025, having power and offensive production from the 1st base pssition is a MUST. I would have no problem with the Halos pursuing a power hitting 1B in the offseason…. that position is usually, the easiest in FA to fill without a long term contract.

  9. Sorry guys but you just got through saying how you feel bad for the current players after an abysmal season… what free agents are going to come to a team in such a horrible state with the same ownership and management? We would likely be over-paying for some older, mid players and be asked to believe these were great pickups…

  10. The Halos have good baseball people in the coaching staff, including a manager who knows what winning is from his tenure in previous teams. But they need to make some good transactions in the offseason to give the staff some players to put out there that they DON”T NEED to develop. Earl Weaver used to say that the secret to winning (besides his iconic statement about the play on the field) is good transactions by the front office and for him to not screw it up. The Halos haven’t had those people who don’t need development (Rendon is never on the field – so he doesn’t count).

  11. The good news is that we have a few players that MIGHT have a future. Trout next year needs to be the DH, and we need pitching again. Those of you that think Ohtani would have made a difference, I disagree. 1 player is not going to win the WS. Look at 02. That money saved now needs to be spent on many players. Arte needs to sell to a baseball owner and not a business man. Hope it happens very soon

  12. Great show as always! I too hope this year won’t be a blemish on Washington’s effort. It’s impossible to arrive to Artes chaos and
complete lack of proper delegated structure. A whimsical top down organization where everyone is operating on whim of the owner and his lapdog. If you’re sending your men into battle, you must provide them proper equipment, technical expertise and battle ready and trained core soldiers. Make sure that proper logistics are there throughout the season..😭There are all left there in the desert with no food and water..

As for Dodgers broadcasters, these are people without embarrassment, claiming that Shohei never laughed, looked happy, been excited in all his tenure with the Angels..
..All they need to do is to type in Shohei Ohtani, Angels..and an avalanche of thousand(literary) of videos from all kinds of angles, shows Shohei with his angels teammates.
When you’re so LAZY to even type, you’re just so sadly incompetent in your work.
..even with BAD ENGLISH, Shohei would NEVER say what they said. He doesn’t even speak that way about things 😂
So for sure, Mike, it’s not even misunderstanding. It’s a thought of someone that grew legs and run on its own!!
As BIG as Dodgers are, they have surprisingly low self esteem and acts like an anxious new girlfriend asking “I’m much prettier than HER, right? Right?”about Shoheis ex..

  13. Great show guys! I'm going to start my day of gratitude early by saying thank you for being a highlight in a fairly dreary season. The loses have been much easier to take knowing I would get to hear some great rants and pop culture references the next morning. You guys and Wayne Randazzo have kept me laughing through the pain, and I truly appreciate it.

  14. I agree with Jon, Luis Guillorme and Willie Calhoun for their short period of time contributed well to this team. Ferris Bueller teacher saying with us fans the students 😦, "Luis, Luis, Luis, oh he was DFA'd to a playoff team. Willie, Willie, Willie oh he was DFA'd also. HUH?, then how fitting the teacher mentioned 1980 now 2024 record was broken. The younger players have done what they could and doesn't deserve this.

  15. I do buy in to Rome not being built in a day. However, Rome was built with a plan, by smart people with a vision. Arte is no Roman. He has proven to have no vision or ability to do what it takes to build a winning team. Please surprise us Arte and open that checkbook and let your people build!

  16. Anderson gave Halos 180IP this season. I can’t blame him but sorry for him. He finished ERA under 4 that is great having a bad defense behind him. You can’t find any other healthy FA pitchers under ERA 4, giving 180 IP with 13 mil. He was great this year.

  17. The Dodgers are marketing and have always taken shots at the Angels when they are down. It is one of the reasons I switched to the Angels from being a Dodgers fan in 1964

  18. Over 15 years of my Angels fandom, Mike and Jon you guys are really the best Angels podcasters I’ve been listening to over the years. You always bring the most classy and educated viewpoint to the team and about Shohei whom I also become a huge fan of since he came to the Angels. What was conveyed by Joe Davis is another example of loss in translation, Shohei probably acknowledged his struggles when it comes to RISP but his point, when speaking in Japanese, would most likely be blaming on himself for thinking too much and didn’t help the team win more games because he knows how much responsibility he has. Anyways, wanted to say thank you both, it’s a historically pathetic season but I appreciate you both stick around and give us great contents day after day!
