Myles Turner’s contract should be discussed. Do we keep him? If so, what does his contract look like?

Myles Turner is currently our third best player. He averaged 17 and 6 for the season on 52% from the field, which is a solid stat-line for a third option. I remember seeing some stat about hos the Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner pick and pop was one of the top scoring plays in the league.

Although he averaged similar numbers in the playoffs, he was absolutely a level above what he was in the regular season. After the ASB, it seemed like his shot-blocking ability came back to him, and he was putting everyone on a poster. All of this makes him super valuable to this team.

However, this also means that Myles Turner is going to get looked at by other teams. That allusive “stretch five” title is a very valuable asset to any team. I think every team in the league besides the ones that already have those shot-blocking three point shooting centers would absolutely love to have him.

I think it is absolutely crucial to keep him. Chad Buchanan has made it very clear that he wants Turner to stay. With that being said, we know we can’t pay everyone. Pascal did take a substantial pay cut, opting to not take the max contract, but we did have to pay Obi Toppin, Andrew Nembhard, and TJ McConnell.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Pacer for life. He’s earned it. Our fanbase owes him the love and loyalty he has shown. Plus, his skillset is so valuable and hard to find.

  2. I’m scared another team will give him a ridiculously large bag we can’t afford. I fully believe the organization will offer him a deal significantly larger than what he’s making now. However, we can’t offer him a Godfather deal. The ball is 100% in his court. He’s worth at least the same deal Hartenstein just got.

  3. I want him in Indy for his whole career. He seems like he genuinely loves playing in the city, and what that does for the culture and brand is worth dropping a good bag on him to make sure he stays

  4. I bet we trade Obi sometime this season or next offseason to help make room. You could maybe say the same for Nesmith or McConnell, but also everyone would HATE those moves (rightfully so) and they fill roles the team needs more than Obi’s. A combination of those two would create most of the cap room needed two avoid the first apron. Pacers would still be over the cap and into the luxury though. If we follow up last season with another great year, I can see this happening. Otherwise if we regress a lot, either Myles, Obi, Nesmith, or TJ will be out. I hope I am wrong

  5. This dude collects Lego sets. Jermaine O neal and Jamal tinsley collected glocks and 50 round drums . Bring gangster back, we have literally been goofy and soft AF since that team left us..

  6. Get him off the roster, hopefully with something in return. I’m all for pacer nation but we have a LEGITIMATE championship window here.. trade him for a 3nD and draft a big man to get boards and protect the rim

  7. If this man’s loyalty isn’t rewarded I will be highly upset. Like Vanessa Carlton once said:

“I’d sign 1000 Myles just to see you tonight”

  8. At this point you really can’t afford to let him go. He is the only thing holding together the defense and his spacing on the opposite end is critical to Pascal and Tyrese.

Also it’s not like we have a stud backup waiting for minutes.

I really see no option except for pay the man his money.

  9. If you can retain him at a level of $30M per year (similar to Jarrett Allen’s recent extension), you take it and rejoice. There’s simply not another comparable & attainable center out there that fits the role that we’re looking for at the 5.

From what we’ve seen so far with the Haliburton, Siakam, and Nembhard deals…it feels like the organization is looking at maximizing these next 4 years with the current nucleus (and likely resulting in a tax bill at the tail end). Letting Turner walk in 2025 is counter-productive to that vision because you’re losing a key asset without replacing that value (the team will be over the cap so it’s not like those funds can be spent on another free agent).

  10. I listens to JMV when he had some front office guys on and they want to keep him. There are obviously some weird rules why we can’t extend him now but I think he will come back. He’s our 3rd best player and arguably the top 3 and D big man in the league.

  11. Lock him up. He played great all through our ECF playoff run and he’s been here for like 10 years. The loyalty needs to be rewarded. He has great chemistry with Tyrese and a unique skillset. If you let him walk, who do you even replace him with?

  12. It looks like a piece of paper with a bunch of letters typed on it with a signature at the bottom.
