[Philly Sixers Galaxy] Keep an eye on the #Sixers targeting players at the trade deadline who are eligible for large extensions next offseason, a person familiar with the team’s thinking said.

"Jonathan Kuminga, Trey Murphy III, and Moses Moody are possible targets, the source indicated, as team ownership is willing to enter the second apron moving forward to go all in for a championship."

  1. I don’t know/care who this is coming from, just give me Kuminga or Murphy III and we’re fuckin golden

  2. The key part is, you don’t have to offer an extension. Basically a rental. We don’t need another Tobias max contract for the next 5 years

  3. Makes sense. The best players in the salary range of the KJ deal are guys still on their rookie contracts.

The Sixers do have really good draft capital actually to facilitate a trade should they choose to empty out some of those clippers picks.

They have the potential to go big game hunting still, but on a young guy

Would also have the benefit of forming a young duo with Maxey that can carry on even as Embiid/PG age out

Tari Eason is a name that interests me. Rabid rebounder, can hit the occasional 3, was like a 95th percentile defender in EPM, but the Rockets might want to consolidate their roster to open up minutes for other guys and he’s coming off a big injury

  4. Call me crazy, but I can see a world where the Pelicans choose Jones & Ingram, leaving Murphy III as the odd man out. Especially if we can entice them with McCain + 1sts

  5. Murphy would be ideal but just think about how good it would be for us all to fill our Kum Buckets for the Kum God

  6. In a follow up tweet:

“More context on the previous report:

    — Deadline for rookie contract extensions is **October 21st** or each player mentioned will enter restricted free agency next summer

    — Jonathan Kuminga and Trey Murphy III can be eligible for a **five-year, up to $224 million** deal

    — Moses Moody’s projected annual salary in a new contract ranges from $11-$13 million/year, Bleacher Report notes

    — Each player noted will earn less than KJ Martin’s $7.9 million salary this season, something almost necessary for any trade to be constructed”

  7. Lol most of the people in this comment section are delusional, Pelicans aren’t giving up Trey Murphy a 6’10 wing who can play defense and shoot 40% from deep on high volume, He’s getting that bag from new Orleans, Y’all have a higher chance of getting Brandon Ingram

  8. Kuminga is not a perfect fit, but I like his ceiling. We’d have four quality wing defenders to throw at Tatum, Brown and the like with PG, Caleb Martin, Oubre and Kuminga. But the offensive fit becomes clunky as hell. He’d easily be the worst shooter in the starting lineup, but his slashing to the rim would add a different wrinkle to the offense, similar to Oubre.

Speaking of Oubre, it would make him our sixth man/men alongside Eric Gordon, a back court combo I like. We increase our depth a lot just by being able to slide Kelly to the bench. Kuminga’s extension number has given would-be suitors pause so far, but if we get a championship out of it, that’s a problem for the offseason.

The team made very good but ultimately safe moves relative to their options so far, but using the team’s remaining assets on someone as boom or bust as Kuminga would be a significant risk. But they have the early season to see how he’d fit here and if he’s made any sort of leap.
