[Grange] Like a lot of fans, the Tanenbaums hadn’t completely gotten over the way Carter left the organization and were resistant to giving him a franchise’s ultimate honour, at least ahead of Kyle Lowry, for example.

  1. I can understand their feeling but this being the 30th anniversary and Vince’s HoF induction it kinda makes sense they would retire his number this year

Hopefully the next two are Kyle and Deebo

  2. Agreed, I don’t care about it being the 30th anniversary, they did it simply because they can market the upcoming season along with a hersey retirement night that will sell tickets.

  3. “That Lowry seems uninterested in retiring — he’ll start his 19th season with the Philadelphia 76ers in a few weeks — is another wrinkle: hard to retire a guy’s jersey when he won’t take it off.

It probably helps, too, that Carter and Lowry are good friends, mitigating any possible hard feelings that Carter becomes the first Raptor with his number retired over Lowry, widely acknowledged as having the greatest career with the franchise.”

I really wish people would get this point inside of their heads.

  4. Larry is the only reasonable one. He was around for it all and he cares.

Someone made a comment it’s like honouring your ex wife you left on bad terms with a shrine at your home

  5. It’s the management that traded away Vince Carter, so I don’t understand why they are blaming him lol. He wanted to stay in Toronto

  6. I truly don’t get why people have put so much importance on who goes up first or second lol. The guy that played first and retired first had his jersey retired first. When Lowry retires his will go up, and then when Demar retires his will go up.
