[Gateway Grinders] Can we talk about how impressive it is for Ryan Helsley to lead the league and break a franchise record with 49 saves on an 82 win team? He didn’t allow a single earned run his last 17 games of the year. Your 2024 Cardinals MVP and it’s not close.

1. Over half our wins were locked down by that man’s right arm. Incredible.

2. I loved getting the feeling “game over” when he came in. So comforting to have such a reliable closer.

8. Tbf a 500ish team probably does offer the most save opportunities. Any more and you’re probably winning by too big a margin and any less you aren’t leading in the 9th.

9. Indeed, he is probably the main reason the Cardinals are a .500-ish team and not one closer to what its run differential indicates. (Along with Kittridge)

11. A lot of those saves were in 1-run games. Ryan was great…but he also needs to thank that limp Cards offense that couldn’t put teams away.
