That last out…

And nobody had ANY idea the 2014 postseason was about to play out the way it did…

  1. I was so tired from staying up extra to keep watching the game, but then after the ecstasy of that moment it became impossible to actually fall asleep.

  2. I did not give a shit about baseball but I went to that game with my wife because she’s a huge fan. 20 years later it still gives me chills. My ears hurt the next day. The top tier of Kauffman was vibrating in kinda scary ways. It was the perfect game.

  3. I listened to the replay of this game this morning on 610.

I remember being so excited after this game, I couldnt sleep. I equate the feeling to losing my virginity.

  4. The call on the radio is permanently etched into my brain. Most enjoyable family dishes ever. The way my dad, mom and I’s hearts and eyes were in sync throughout the entire 12th was magical

  5. Colon didn’t do much in his career but he scored the game winning run in the 2014 Wild Card game and the go-ahead run in the 2015 World Series clincher.

  6. A memory I cherish is walking my dog through my apartment complex parking lot in Westport during the 2014 postseason run and hearing people in different units all around me loudly and simultaneously cheering whenever there was a nice play or hit by the Royals. For a few weeks, it felt like the city was completely in sync.

I even remember sitting in the DMV downtown with my wife and a bunch of us started talking about the game from the night before. People of all different ages, backgrounds, economic tiers, colors, and so on all chiming into the discussion and reliving the previous evening’s game together. I’ve never felt such unity among the people of a community either before or since. For a short time, nothing mattered to the people of KC as much as the Royals. It was special. Even my boss, who was European and hated baseball, was watching every game and coming into my office to talk about it the next morning. All eyes were on the Royals.

  7. I was living overseas at the time. No one understood why I was crying tears of joy in my office

  8. I was at this game and drove down the day of from Chicago where I was working at the time. Stayed up all night and caught a 6am flight back to chi so I could only miss a day of work. Honestly the best night of my life
