How the Boston Bruins Changed the Jeremy Swayman Contract Negotiation Narrative

How the Boston Bruins Changed the Jeremy Swayman Contract Negotiation Narrative

“Well, I don’t want to get into the weeds with what (Jeremy Swayman’s) ask is, but I know that I have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now.”

With that, Boston Bruins team president Cam Neely put the team’s offer on the table, turning the tables on the narrative that they’re not doing enough to sign their young star goaltender.

Swayman’s agent, however, denies the $64M amount, and the Bruins’ preseason press conference has suddenly become the talk of the National Hockey League.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down Neely’s comments and the response, and asks whether a deal can still be reached or if the Bruins have alienated Swayman to the point of a trade request.

Plus, what’s the plan for Fabian Lysell? And will Jim Montgomery soon be extended?

What we do know is Joonas Korpisalo will be the opening night starter.

  1. There are risks on both sides when you have an 8 year deal.. There are many examples of good and bad goalie contracts. Swaymen should take a shorter term contract and bet on himself in 2 or three years from now

  2. Again all these "reports" from so called NHL insiders are just rumors, if they don't present proof then I don't believe it. I don't care what his "worth" is why do people care what he makes, they're not paying him the Boston Bruins are. just sign the contract and let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Can you say Carey Price? Under all your assumptions Swayman is great. He could stub his toe and fall down the stairs and his career is over. Swayman could win a Cup? Why not assume he's going to singlehandedly win the next 8 Cups? He's not even worth 8×8 right now. Swayman should take the 8×8 and shut up. If he does not sign before the seasdon, I would either trade him to a terrible team for some draft picks or make him sit the next 2 years out, no pay and a massive decrease in his value on the market. He can sign in 2 years anywhere he wants for $2-3 million/season.
