‘One of the boys’: Shohei Ohtani impresses Dodgers teammates with his personality, too

  1. Ippei was insanely controlling and manipulative. I can’t believe he wouldn’t let Shohei communicate with his teammates. That is pure insanity. Thank god he’s going to prison.

  2. Dodgers boutta be the “power of friendship” team that r/baseball always jokes about lmao

  3. > “He really, really wants to [win] and gets excited about the possibility of postseason stuff, which is awesome,” Kershaw said. “[We] kind of feed off the energy, for sure, with our club.”

God I hope this translates to postseason success

  4. Wait till you see him pitch. The man switches personalities on the mound. Very intense, focused and fired up when he gets strikeouts in crucial moments. I swear people who say he shouldn’t pitch have never watched him pitch a whole start.

  5. Seemed to me like when he reached the 40-40 milestone, he dramatically loosened up and began to look like he was having actual fun. Then the closer the Dodgers got to clinching the playoff berth, his joy and enthusiasm and more joyful interaction with teammates burst through. It’s been fun to watch that evolution through the season’s ups and downs and back up. In the last couple of postseasons the roster seemed so uptight and somber. I so hope that this season they find a way as a team to play with abandon and confidence.

  6. I think he is introverted, so it took him and his teammates a little bit to get comfortable with each other. Now that they have, he feels free to be just one of the guys.

  7. > “He’s always got a great attitude, and he’s got a sneaky personality that’s kind of funny,” Treinen said.

I wonder if BlaQ and Shohei talk about anything besides baseball. Just seem like very different dudes

  8. This is important, actually. With a star as big as Sho, there’s gotta be a concern that his prowess and attention received could potentially cause issues within the clubhouse. It’s a delicate thing to balance, I’d imagine. Glad to hear it.

  9. I just want to see videos of him fucking around with his teammates and teaching them some funny Japanese phrases. Why isn’t this already a thing? Fuck DuoLingo, let’s get weekly DodgerLingo lessons.
