Baltimore Orioles vs Kansas City Royals | Wildcard Game 1 | LIVE! Play-by-Play & Commentary | 10/1
The Orioles (91-71) have arrived to the postseason on a positive run, winning seven out of their last ten ballgames, as key players like Jordan Westburg, Ryan Mountcastle, Ramon Urias and Danny Coulombe all returned from injury down the stretch to give the team a shot in the arm. The offense certainly looks healthier after a rough, long stretch of poor performances more often than not. Are we set up just in time for October? The journey begins this afternoon, as the Birds host the Kansas City Royals (86-76) who have ended the season with a bit of a speed bump, but did manage to stay ahead of Detroit in the final standings. Baltimore won both series against KC way back in April, and both series were quite exciting, as we saw early glimpses of how talented this team is – a team that has experienced a significant turnaround, much like Baltimore showed the league last season. Bobby Witt Jr is an absolute beast of a player, and keeping him under some amount of control will likely be the key to help us move on to the Division Round. On the mound, we turn to the man we brought in over the winter for this very occasion – Corbin Burnes, our staff’s ace. He will be matched up against a solid and steady left-hander in Cole Ragans. Burnes could toss a gem, but keeping speedy runners off base will be crucial, as aggresive running, led by Witt Jr and Maikel Garcia. The good news for Baltimore is – the Royals’ two best hitters, Witt Jr and Salvador Perez, have had their quietest months of the season in September. Along with the loss of 1B Vinny Pasquantino, the Royals lineup seems capable of struggling against quality pitching.
The wait is OVER folks. It is time for POSTSEASON BASEBALL. So saddle up, grab some snacks, a drink or six, and enioy the ballgame. Thank yooooouuuuuu.
Hello folks, and welcome to the newest home of Orioles coverage. I am Steve, AKA, the BirdWatcher, and I am on what the Blues Brothers would refer to as – a mission from GOD. Due to a variety of reasons and unexpected circumstances, this former staff writer for the Premier League gets to return to his original passion, starting his own project – covering Orioles baseball all season long. That’s right. Along with a handful of Spring Training games, the mission is to cover EVERY regular season game this year.
