Apologies for the multiple posts.

  1. A lot of big NHL guys are talking. I think someone has started conversations, regardless of what bettman says.

  2. I generally think they know if they don’t Soccer is gonna move in and they won’t have a chance.

  3. Only way that happens is either if they can get a new arena going in 2025 or if the NHL would somehow be willing to try Glendale again temporarily. In any case, I’ll believe it when I see it, but I’m not getting burned again by discounting seravalli.

  4. Nothing’s impossible, but I doubt it. The ones in charge of the process are refuting these rumors, there are already two other expansion options confirmed to be in active consideration/planning, and we’re no closer to a stable owner or arena deal…which is why we lost the franchise in the first place.

I’m sure there’s active interest by the NHL, because of the overall value in the AZ market and the fact that a lot of NHLers have made Arizona home and are vocal about wanting hockey back in AZ. But again, there’s nothing to show that a legitimate timeline or plan is in place that would signify an NHL franchise in AZ within 5 years. Most of the things required to even have that conversation take 5 years, so this seems wildly optimistic to me.

I’d love to be proven wrong, it was soul-crushing to lose them, but I’m not seeing it within 5 years.

  5. Owner + Arena = Team.

I’m not sure if that’ll get sorted out in 5 years or 50, however.
