BREAKING: Diamond says in court it plans to continue broadcasting one — just one — of the remaining teams it has with MLB: the Atlanta Braves. The 11 other MLB teams (and 9 still under contract) with Diamond will either have to negotiate a new deal w/Diamond — or go elsewhere.

  1. We are going to need to cut payroll further. We will now have one employee at the gates checking all tickets.

  2. Maybe unpopular but cut Chip and Brad and bring back Danny Mac while we’re transitioning. Personal stuff aside I liked listening to him more and I can’t handle the endless happy spin on everything from chip and Brad.

  4. Would Cards fans be willing to pay for TV broadcasts in exchange for higher payroll? Or, free TV and lower payroll?

Hot take, but I hope the latter happens. I’m hoping the Phoenix suns who went free local TV in 2023 experience a big upswing in popularity and it convinces owners in all sports that the more people watch, the better.

  5. Don’t pop the champagne corks just yet. Seems like every time a major change happens recently it’s always to a shittier, more expensive option.

  6. For the love of Abner Doubleday, all I want is to be able to pay the price MLBTV supposedly costs and be able to watch ALL the games

  7. Now is the chance to take the product and market it as a 24/7 Cardinals Network streaming product. I’d gladly pay $20 per month for that. They could couple that with some local OTA games like 3-5 times per week for those of you in the metro area.

  8. This honestly isn’t the win anyone thinks it is because it’s tough as shit to get a new production up and running in 6 months. (did it once, it sucked ass).

Maybe MLB has a robust transition plan or the Cardinals already have things lined up to just do it themselves instead of having Diamond management on top of things but it still requires getting the people side of things worked out even if you can buy all of the assets from Diamond.

  9. $100 Million before incentives is a lot to lose, the Cardinals do own 20% of the network so I would expect things to mirror the San Diego/Arizona model where it stays on cable but then has an MLB.tv standalone package for like $15/month. Either way they’re gonna have about a $40 million revenue shortfall at a minimum. I would be really surprised if the Cardinals return to local broadcast TV even part time unfortunately

  10. Since they are both dealing with the same shit with Diamond, how about a Blues/Cardinals combo app? This seems to be so logical to me. You would keep a lot of subscribers year round

  11. can we get back with diamond on this? yeah, maybe make a $200 a month surcharge to watch games that requires a 10 year contract. i think that’s the best thing for baseball

  12. San Diego, Arizona, and Colorado has become direct to consumer due to those RSN failing. MLB really needs to get ahead of this since the RSN model is dying, and owners who have been in AARP for 30 years already are struggling to understand anyone under 70 has moved on from cable only. Only a few markets can keep supporting it as their own channels like Chicago or New York. Let alone how they need to focus more on national televised and eradicating blackouts in the regular season as well.

I digress, but I feel like Bally going away could be a good thing. I do worry about the Blues though. I am not sure how NHL has handled regional RSNs failing unlike the MLB, and Chicago created a new regional network that is co-owned/operated by the White Sox, Bulls, and Blackhawks. There needs to be a viable long-term solution here, and hopefully the Blues and Cardinals find a way forward.

  13. Best news since this whole bankruptcy saga started. Individual streaming service, maybe with Blues included, would be great.

  14. Good! Now I don’t have to deal with Bally for a team I’m not going to watch next year anymore anyway!!!

  15. Oddly enough, they might actually get more fans in the stadium if they didn’t have such a shit broadcasting partner. It’s harder to feel close to the product when it’s so damn difficult to watch it on television. Out of sight; out of mind.

  16. I don’t give a shit if a direct-to-consumer streaming service for Cardinals baseball costs me $400/year; that’s still exponentially cheaper than paying for cable, and watching baseball is literally the only thing I use cable for.

  17. I hope all of the other teams go elsewhere and somehow the Braves rating suck. Fuck these greedy cunts.
