  1. Wait so what exactly does this mean for the Reds? Potentially a new tv provider for next season?

  2. **UPDATE FROM EVAN DRELLICH:**

    > [CORRECTION: Diamond has not formally dropped every team but the Braves. Technically, what it did today is drop the contracts of 2 teams: the Rays and Tigers. The 5 other teams besides Atlanta couldn’t technically be dropped today, but Diamond is implying they have to renegotiate](https://x.com/EvanDrellich/status/1841540436671820088)

    Also:

    > [Diamond carried 12 MLB teams in 2024. Three — Cleveland, Texas and Minnesota — were on 1-year deals. But 9 other teams were under contract for 2025: Anaheim, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Kansas City, Miami, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Tampa Bay. Diamond only wants Atlanta.](https://x.com/EvanDrellich/status/1841500538157846887)

[Doug Gray expanding on what this means for the Reds:

    > So what does this mean for the Cincinnati Reds? Well, it’s pretty unknown at this point. But there are some things that are on the table. First would be to simply try and negotiate a new deal with Bally Sports.
    >
    > But the other options are plentiful. The Reds and Major League Baseball could take the production in-house and do something similar to what a few other teams did when Bally dropped them last year and put their games on MLB.tv and offer those games to locals without blackout restrictions for a monthly/yearly fee. The Reds could also shop their broadcasts to other channels or streaming platforms.
    >
    > No matter how any of that goes, Major League Baseball and the Cincinnati Reds are not going to be in a situation where fans can’t watch games. It’s almost assuredly going to cost the fans money to watch them, but they will be available to local fans.
    >
    > But when it comes to the Reds, and these other teams, their ownership groups and front offices just got a rude awakening and a kick in the teeth. While the Cincinnati Reds didn’t exactly have a top tier television contract with Bally Sports, there is almost no way that their next deal will be remotely close to as valuable. So long story short, **the Reds revenue from broadcasts is likely to drop off big time**. And when you’ve already got a franchise that continuously cries poor, this is just another thing that’s going to keep them doing so and it’s likely going to mean **spending less now and in the future compared to what they would have with their current deal remaining in place.**

    > Buckle up. It’s going to be an interesting offseason.

  3. As an out of market fan (yet still subject to the blackouts) I just want to be able to watch on Youtube TV. That’s all I ask

  4. Busy week for reds fans. So, my hope is that some sort of deal will be reached with potentially a portion of the package being offered to an over the air outlet- for example, I live in Indianapolis and prior to Marquee TV carrying most of the Cubs games, an independent over the air station up here carried the WGN broadcast of a few games- typically Sunday afternoons, sometimes but rarely weekday afternoons, never evenings iirc.

It would help grow the fanbase if a portion of the package would be available over the air. I’m also curious if other teams as part of the bankruptcy hearings have done this. I know asking for the days of channel 5 or Star 64 airing all the games ain’t coming back, but hope a few can make it over the air.

  5. MLB is killing its own product with this nonsense. They need a single deal with a single streamer, like MLS has with Apple TV, where anyone anywhere can watch all of the games.

  6. I haven’t watched a game on local broadcast since Bally became an add-on channel. The rare nationally televised games are the only ones I’ve tuned into. Not sure who to blame exactly, but I say good riddance.

  7. The good news:

We’re finally free from Bally Sports and some of us might finally be able to actually watch some games without having to sail the seven seas

    The bad news:

If you think owners like Bob and co. are cheap now, just wait until you see them without the RSN money they’ve been receiving

  8. Kind of curious since several of these teams are small market midwest, if they can maybe bundle themselves together to get some of the big fish (Comcast, Amazon, etc) interested instead of pursuing some smaller options oin their own.

  9. I full expect the organization to make the wrong decision and try to renegotiate with Bally’s/Diamond.

  10. Maybe make some games available to the community to watch for free? I don’t know anyone who watches on TV anymore. No idea how you get anyone interested in watching when no one can watch in the first place. The stadium is mostly empty for multiple reasons and not just because the team stinks.
