  1. Patrick Kane scored 1 goal last season without either Cat or Larkin on the ice w him. DeBrincat was on the ice for 17 of Kane's 20 goals. The Larkin/Cat/Kane line played 10+ games (150 minutes) together as a line; they outscored opponents 14-6 at 5v5 in those 150 minutes; Kane in those 10 games at 5v5 (JUST at 5v5; not counting power play, 4 on 4, or OT) had 8 goals, 5 assists, 13 points in 10 games. The Raymond Larkin DeBrincat version of the line, on the other hand, in 310 minutes together, outscored opponents 23-17. Per 60 minutes that version of the line gives up over 1 more goal, and scores more than 1 less goal, than does the Kane version.

Who in their right mind watched the last several games of the year and thought it looked like a sustainable way to play hockey or win games? It wasn't. The sustainable way to play and win was the 6 game win streak, specifically the back half of it w Kane Cat Larkin as the top line. The best the team played all year was at home vs St Louis and at home vs Washington w that top line. They obliterated them. The whole team fell into place bc the top line was right.

Kane could not produce w Compher even w Cat as the other wing. That 2nd line will not score at all. The first line will trade goals and chances.
