Did anyone else forget Sergei played for the capitals? And also played with ovechkin for a couple seasons. I am trying to think if I knew this. Thought it was interesting!

  1. Absolutely not. Hated every moment of playing on other teams. I didn’t hate him, just that he wasn’t a Wing.

  2. Sergei playing for anyone else but Detroit for me is like David Beckham playing for anyone else but Man United, his career didn’t exist.

  3. It was in some ways the best part of his post-Detroit tenure. He exceeded expectations there.

  4. Had Fedorov not wanted to be the superstar and stayed on the wings as a team player, he would’ve won more cups and likely could’ve broke some if not all of Gretzkys records

  5. I’m from Buffalo and the only time I got to see Fedorov live was when the Caps visited, also side note it was when OV’s grandpa passed away so he wasn’t at the game at all

  6. Feds had some personal issues (Kornikova) that needed to be addressed and it affected his time while in Detroit – hence Holland letting him walk.

  7. I was living in Washington at this time and remember him on the team. He provided mentorship to a couple of young Russian players, and was a solid 2nd line center for them.
