  1. I’m really surprised by all that. I hope they come out strong in the opener, otherwise people will critic his choice.

  2. Good call Marty! I watched episode 3 of The Rebuild last night and had nightmares about it.

  3. The full quote for context:

    > “Ideally, I’d like to have to have my complete lineup but with everything that has happened this pre-season, not just with us but throughout the league, I don’t want to take a chance (by playing my 1st line tonight).”

  4. Yep, took out all our top players, good call. I wouldn’t even be mad if no team showed up and we forfeited the game. Why bother? Ottawa starts the beef, and in response calls up all their AHL goons. Again, why bother for a pre-season game?

  5. Makes sense.

Kind tired of Leafs and Sens goon squads cheapshotting our players all the time with no repercussions.

  6. IMO they shouldn’t be playing any teams from their division during preseason. would avoid rivalries and cheap shots.

  7. Normalement, les équipes reposent leurs joueurs…ici le ch les protègent. Weak move imo

  8. This doesn’t make sense. This subreddit told me because Xhekaj played a physical presence that they’d be too scared to go after the stars.

I do think it helps protect, don’t get me wrong, but it’s been absolutely escalating these past few games.

  9. Good. No need to risk some AHL goon on his last legs taking out our top players. We already lost 2 guys this pre season. Send out the scrubs until the real thing against the leafs.

  10. Thank god lol .. if it was me I’d only be playing Goons at all future preseason games..

  11. Goons vs goons would be fine…2 Xhekaj’s, Pezz. Tuch, Anderson, Mailloux etc…let em go at it.

  12. I’m more than fine with the decision but really it makes you think…what’s even the point of pre season at all if you can’t (well you can but at a huge risk with little to no upside) play your full line-up without the fear of losing your big players for absolutely nothing?

  13. When a team cannot play their regular roster for fear of the opposing team taking liberties with their best players, there is something seriously wrong. This is as close as you can get to a protest (refusing to play) from a team. The NHL needs to take a close look and fix this.

  14. Habs has zero trust in the NHL to control the game (via good reffing). Good call, the NHL have shown to be totally incapable of controlling a game or protecting players during pre-season.
