Red Wings preseason final thoughts: Why Marco Kasper deserves an NHL roster spot

  1. I’m honestly so tired of seeing unnecessary roster blockades when we have a few young guys who should be making the team.

  2. He deserves a spot because he looks like a dude who has been an elite player for 5 years.

He looks like he was one of the best players in the season.

Doesn’t mean he will be that but that performance from him was great.

  3. He deserves it because he’s clearly earned it. I didn’t get to watch a lot of the preseason but the times I did he looked noticeable, even among the NHL guys. He was great along the boards, great at getting the puck to the house, had good vision and speed and was tenacious on the puck, all without being a defensive liability like Berggren.

If he gets sent back to the AHL he should 110% be the first call up.

  4. I might be in the minority here but I think he would be better off starting in the AHL as the true 1C and gets the call up when/if any of the top 9 get injured. I don’t want him on the 4th line, even though he could absolutely handle it.

His floor right now is a 2C and if he gets the finishing touch he’s a bonafide 1C. No reason to bury him. If Copp, Compher, or Larkin get injured I want him to be called up to center over Ras and JFV because he clearly can handle it.

Sign Watson, pray Bergs has a good opening to the season so we can trade him and bring Kasper then Mazur up to fill any vacant roles throughout the season. Also I don’t know anything I’m just an armchair GM

  5. The time is now to give young guys a spot over “veterans”. We want to win, make the playoffs, and give our young stars a chance for some experience in said playoffs in the hopes we will be making cup runs shortly. Put a guy like Kasper in and he can be a huge spark for other young guys and vets alike!

  6. One thing I noticed is he looks way bigger out there than I thought. You could tell me he was 6’2” and I’d have believed you.

  7. Need to stop caring about bergren. Dude has had plenty of time to make it and he hasn’t. Team has had plenty of time to get something for him and hasn’t. It’s a sunk cost at this point move on and clear up a spot.

  8. If he makes it, great!

If he goes to GR that’s fine too.

The bottom line is that it’s pretty clear Kasper, Danielson and Mazur have a future with the Red Wings. I think the org wants to see GR have a great year with a Calder Cup push. The AHL playoff provides good experience and it gets these guys into “winning” mode.

Furthermore, let’s be honest, we aren’t winning the Cup this year. Playoffs is the goal, but I can’t see us making a deep run without a noticeable change or some unbelievable luck. I’m not sure any or all of those three guys are the difference maker…yet.

Kasper will get here when it’s the right time.
