  1. Dumping Poolman aside, I’m happy we got Brannstrom. Good bottom pairing puck moving Defenseman.

    Allvin has cooked again

  2. Solid trade. Podkolzin turned into Brannstrom. Gonna miss Canucks legend Poolman

  3. Sens fan here.

Branny is a good 3rd pair puck moving dman who has solid underlying metrics. His weak point is boxing players out in front of the net and his skating speed… if hes paired with Myers that should help with the issue. Last season he was our 4th best defensemen out of Sanderson, Zub and Chabot.

  4. This means we can accrue capspace now and have a bottom pair d-man that can move the puck.

  5. i dont really understand salary cap specifics but i think this indicates we’re accruing space in preparation to add someone significant at the deadline.

  6. Brannstrom may never play for us but we get to stay out of LTIR with this trade and accrue cap for the TDL, that’s a W

  7. Feeling a lot better about our options for the bottom pair now. We still need a top four RHD. But this gives me confidence that the bottom pair won’t get us stuck in our own zone as often.

  8. don’t know much about brannstrom but comments seem positive

since we effectively shed $1m in cap here, if were off ltir this means we accrue extra space throughout the year? like an extra $3-4m?

good move if so regardless of how it turns out

  9. Brannstrom is mostly just a contract at this point. They basically traded a 4th for cap space.

  10. You just *knew* Allvin wasn’t gonna start the season without making a trade.

    I had a feeling we’d see Poolman + 4th moved for a warm body.

  11. Per Canucks Twitter just now:

    >General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Erik Brannstrom has been placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Abbotsford (AHL).

What are we cooking here Patty

  12. Basically in turn Pooleman and a 4th in at least a serviceable 7th D or cap space since Brannstrom can be sent down

  13. I love this personally, but I do wonder how much Tocc will play Brannstrom seeing as he doesn’t have quite the height or reach of Forbort that Tocc and team have been enamoured by.

I honestly want him to play with Myers so Soucy can balance out Desharnais and spread out the puck moving. so:

    Hughes-Hronek
    Bran-Myers
    Soucy-Desharnais
    Juulsen/Friedman/Forbort

I do think one of Juulsen or Friedman are unfortunately getting claimed.

  14. Does Tucker even like report to Denver, or can he still hang and train in the facilities here? Im curious what this means for the person more the player. Hopefully he’s not expected to uproot his life just for the remainder of his contract

  15. I remember there being a lot of hype around Brannstrom, especially during the Mark Stone trade. Obviously it hasn’t really worked out for him, so here’s hoping for a turnaround

  16. Allvin will not rest until all of Benning’s demons are exorcised from this org.

  17. No way Brannstrom doesn’t get claimed. 900k cap hit and 20 points last year with great underlying numbers. I don’t get why we didn’t waive Juulsen instead….

Good move with Poolman but immediately waiving Brannstrom is a real headscratcher.
