  1. I really thought they’d wait to see if he could repeat and be a proper top 6 winger. Guess they didn’t wanna stick around and find out so looks like they settled on a safe cap hit and term.

Also likely means this team sees him as a Garland type player who can play up and down the lineup. I also wonder if he’ll just outright replace Garland once his contract is up, or maybe they move off Garland in the summer cuz I’m not sure where they pulled an extra 2M + Boeser extension from.

  2. Locked up before going off on a line with Debrusk and Petey. Allvin can’t stop cooking up Ws

  3. NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILS BIG HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG

    HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGLANDERRRRRRRRRRR

  4. The CHEF cooking once again. One more move like this by the Chef and I’m saying fuck it and giving him my hair follicles for a transplant

  5. Great deal for a winger who can play anywhere in the lineup. Even if his shooting percentage drops this year I think it’s smart to get the deal done early.

  6. 24 ES goals last season but shot 20%

I’ve been high on the guy since the day he was drafted but admittedly he’s still a bit of a question mark. Management must anticipate a big season from him if they’re wanting to lock him down now

  7. I went to Vancouver for my bachelor party last year and got a Höglander jersey. Hope he’s a Canucks for a very long time.

  8. Im probably *less* bullish on Hoglander than a lot of this sub, but this is a tidy freakin’ piece of business.

If he can be a regular 15-20 goal guy that can play 3rd line minutes, bring some energy and be a thorn in the other team’s side, you’re more than happy with this deal.

  9. I like the AAV and the term, im just not use to seeing us extend RFAs a year before their contract expires

  10. Höglander was 15 minutes late to his autograph signing at Pastime Sports because of a ‘hockey obligation’. But we all knew why he was late.

    THE HOG STAYS!

  11. I think this is gonna look like a steal in two years. He’s still signed this season at 1.1

  12. People forget there were games last year when Hoglander looked like our best player. He just needs to round out his game defensively and be more consistent and this could be a steal. One of the best puck battlers on the team and comes into camp every year in top shape. Still only 23. I love the risk reward of this contract.

  13. It’d be interesting to see which 2 out of Heinen/Sprong/Hoglander will get the most top 6 minutes this year.

  14. He was worth more than $3 million last year, so if he continues to improve, then this will be an amazing contract.

On the other hand, the Canucks dead cap space grows by $2 million next year, so with an expected $5 million increase, the Canucks have already used up 2/3rds of the new cap space. They will need some ELCs to help sign Brock Boeser and others.

  15. This is a really good extension. I wasn’t expecting to see it happen so soon, but from training camp and preseason it appears he’s on the cusp of taking another step forward—I expect we’ll be getting a lot of surplus value from this contract, especially in years 2 and 3.

I think his ceiling is of a true top-6, 30+ goal two-way winger, and if he continues to expand the cerebral aspect of his game, he has a reasonable chance of hitting it. Very excited to see what the Big Hög does this season.

  16. Anyone else thinking of Burrows team friendly deal after this vote of confidence for Hoglander? Absolutely love that they got ahead of this contract, and the way Hoglander has looked in training camp and preseason, it doesn’t really seem like a risk at all to almost triple his salary. We have Hog for the next 4 years for only 10.1 million combined, and he could score 100 goals for us in the next 4 seasons if he gets more minutes and offensive opportunities!

Hella stoked for this deal, another smart move
