  1. Oh wow raph lavoie there

    Turned 24 a week ago

9th in the AHL in goals last year with a very sustainable 13 sh%

Many players peak 25 and later

    👀

  2. None of them are great but Patera can be a decent backup/3 for Demko. Zach Aston-Reese isn’t a good player but will/should get plenty of game time in Columbus, checking winger kind of guy.

  3. How does Vegas claim 2 players? That mean all teams passed and those players and got to pick twice?

  4. Of those? Probably Lavioe, he had a good camp and did a decent job of trying to earn a spot on a stacked oilers team.

I assume he beats out schwindt for the 4th line role they are competing for, has size and can play a hard game while also having some skill

  5. Wasn’t Schwindt part of the Tkachuk-Huberdeau trade? IIRC he was a rather touted prospect piece of the trade

  6. Reimer to ANA is a bit of a head scratcher, but I guess he’ll be starting for their AHL team? I feel like the Gibson/Dostal tandem is pretty set in stone, but maybe this gives them leeway to make a move and ship Gibson to a contender close to the deadline this season?

  7. Patera is just a formality, if nobody else claims him they can assign him back to the AHL in connection with Vancouver’s original waiving.

Reimer to ANA is because Gibson is on IR. I guess we’ll see how long that goes. Reimer probably goes back to Waivers at some point.

Ashton-Reese is who he is. Boone Jenner is on IR, so a spot is there, he’s a vet with 310 NHL career games, 4th liner, often a scratch. Just a warm vet body.

Lavoie/Schwindt, we’ll see about these two. A couple of younger guys new to waiver eligibility. I guess Vegas thinks there could be something there, perhaps they’re competing for the same spot to try and last 30 days before they can be claimed/assigned back like Patera (if nobody else claims them).

Of them, I think Lavoie is probably the most intriguing. Big and physical, good shot, just turned 24. He doesn’t skate particularly well, but perhaps can be a useful player in the Vegas system.
