The Cubs were shutout 16 times this season. Which was tied with the Reds for 3rd worst only behind the Nationals and White Sox. Like you guys mentioned, the bullpen was definitely an issue but the offense was also a huge issue. It seems like some people aren't realizing both things can be true.
As far as my grades, I'd give Hendricks a D and Happ a solid B.
If Hendricks didn't have a great last month would've been an easy F.
An if Happ didn't have a such a poor April and September could've easily been a lock for an A.
Despite a mediocre performance, I would give Kyle a C- and hope he’s a candidate for a pitching coach position either in 25 or 26. I’ve always said Happ is overrated and how Jed gave this guy a no trade option is beyond me. With all the outstanding young outfielders in the pipeline, they have no place to go. I’ll generously give Happ a B- and hope they can unload him while his stock is fairly high. Jed screwed the pooch with the way he constructed this team, a bunch of good players and no real studs. Get a starter, a closer and a big bat, easier said than done.
