QO will be a full $21M this year

That's per ESPN. And, with that, I have little doubt Mo is offering Goldy that kind of money. And, if we're really rebuilding, he's not getting that kind of money for two years, total, even, in all likelihood.

  1. What exactly are you saying? I have little doubt the Cardinals aren’t offering Goldy anything. They shook hands and Goldy will ride off into some other team’s sunset

  2. They’ve already announced they’re parting ways. There was never a chance in hell they’d give Goldy a QO. Only possibility would’ve been let him test free agency and see if he’s willing to stay for very cheap. Talking like $5 mil + incentives cheap.

  3. Nobody with any critical thinking skills thought Goldschmidt was getting a QO. I don’t care if this team is rebuilding or not he was barely above replacement. His only chance to stay on the team was a league minimum platoon, but even that just takes ABs away from Baker if they’re rebuilding.

  4. I think you would jump on a guy that can play great defense and hit .250 and 20 plus homers for $10m a year

  5. Goldy is going to sign with somebody like the Milwaukee Brewers and hit no less than six moonshots against us next season.

  6. I get that 1B doesn’t get paid like they used to, but I’d have to respectfully disagree on the chances of him making over $21m.

In 2023 a 36 year old Jose Abreu got $58.5/m over 3 years and Rizzo got $40m for 2.

In 2024, Bellinger “settled” for 3/$80m with opt outs and Rhys Hoskins, who didn’t play the year before got 2/$34m.

We live in a new world as far as salaries go. I personally don’t think Mo ought to offer the QO unless there was a nearly 100% assurance he wasn’t going to take it (reasonable minds can disagree as to whether the draft compensation is worth the risk), but I think there’s almost certainty he’d get more than $21m on a multi year deal.

His calculation is QO+ 2025-26 off-season contract vs. whatever guarantee he can lock down this off-season with weight given to this off-season given he’ll be a year younger next FA term

  7. I’m pretty sure Goldy isn’t even eligible for the QO. Even if he was, it would be nuts to give him the QO

  8. I would give him a QO. If he takes it, 21 million is not bad, and you can trade him at the deadline for a real prospect. If he doesn’t take it, you get draft pick compensation.

  9. Given how poorly he performed, he would definitely take a QO, this was known before we knew exactly what it would be. Because of that, there is no chance we give him a QO.
