Can Herb Jones Handle Center for New Orleans Pelicans?

Can Herb Jones Handle Center for New Orleans Pelicans?

Host Jake Madison dives into the New Orleans Pelicans’ bold decision to position Herb Jones as the starting center, signaling a shift towards a small ball lineup. This move sparks discussion about potential rebounding issues and the risk of Jones encountering foul trouble against larger opponents. The expected opening night lineup includes Dejounte Murray, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, and Herb Jones, with debates swirling around whether Trey Murphy should eventually replace McCollum when healthy. Additionally, the release of Matt Ryan frees up a roster spot, likely for cost-saving rather than trade purposes. As the Pelicans prepare for their preseason matchup against the Miami Heat, Jake Madison breaks down what these changes mean for the team’s strategy and season outlook.

Join Jake Madison for an in-depth analysis of the Pelicans’ evolving game plan and its potential impact on their path forward.

  1. People no longer want truth. They want consensus and "narrative". The starting lineup will be adjusted several times over the season. Trey Murphy will be inserted as the starting center in a few of those games. He will score 25/30+ points in at least one of those games…which Murphy does. for. a. living.

The national media and all of the Pels podcasts will go nuts and immediately change the narrative. "Murphy is the center of the future for the Pels." Narrative and consensus trumps all.

  2. They should have went with Daniel Tice just the same herb fouls cuz we might need his defense late in the game and if he's in foul trouble how effective would he be

  3. I knew that was going to be their move, and it infuriates me. I called it weeks ago that they would try to make Herb the starting center over Theis. All Griffin had to do was get a starting caliber center, even if it was low caliber. But instead we have a career backup and two young players with no NBA experience. And Herb becomes the default, our best perimeter defend.
