Is goaltending a concern for Canucks with Demko out?

TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss the Canucks blowing a three-goal lead in their 6-5 loss to the Flames in their season opener, and whether goaltending is going to be an issue for them with Thatcher Demko out.

  1. Wasn't Silvos lol sports media is a joke. 2 of the goals were perfectly placed shots and were on poor defensive coverage more than anything, on top of the team having no drive. Silovs is fine if the defence can play well, but I have my concerns about the bottom pairing, Wayyyy to slow

  2. Demko can't be relied upon as a bonafide 1A goaltender, too injury prone. He'd be an excellent backup, playing every few games in relief.

They don't have Ian Clark anymore. Elias Petersson is a ghost, Quinn Hughes becomes a ghost in the postseason. As putrid as Ian Cole was, do the Canucks even have any remaining players on the roster with cup experience? Zadorov, Lindholm, both gone. The roster has been gutted CATASTROPHICALLY. This is the season where the Nucks come crashing back down to Earth, me thinks. They might not even get into the postseason, depending on how well Utah plays.

I know the Canucks rocked it last year, giving EDM the toughest matchup in the postseason prior to them facing FLO, but how can any Vancouver fan be optimistic with the state the team is in at the moment? Being so reliant on ONE player is not a reliable formula for success, just ask Connor McDavid.

  3. its not a starter/backup situation right now – its (temporarily) a 1A/1B tandem, so its no big deal if the 1A guy fell apart a bit (on opening night; as early in the season as you can possibly get), so that's what the 1B guy is for, now = to switch back & forth, all the time…nobody's expected to be the starter

  4. Is your top paid player getting 1 shot in 23 minutes not going to be addressed? 11.6 million… with bonuses… 14.5 million per season… to not produce. 7 regular strength goals since Jan 1st, 2024. 10 months ago! 7 goals!
