  1. Witt Jr. has that dog in him. Made sure to watch so he could get even more motivated going forward.

  2. Great players are wired differently. Witt will have those images of another team celebrating seared into his memory and use it as motivation.

  3. Costas and Darling (as well as others) talked about how players do this sort of thing, watching the other team celebrate on the field, to basically savor the pain and the moment and to motivate themselves to never have to feel that way ever again.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of the opposing team’s players go over and give them a respectful dap like that. I guess I would be worried the player wouldn’t be in the mood/needed some alone time.

  4. That’s some good sportsmanship right there. I’ve always respected Stanton but I can’t help but like him now

  5. Respect.

I respect Witt soaking in the heartbreak.

I respect Stanton showing him some support.

Witt has a bright future ahead of him. He will get another chance in the playoffs.

  6. Respect to Stanton for that, wish Garcia and Vinnie would have been there soaking it in too

  7. This is just like me in the break room when some ass clown gets promoted and I have to stand there eating cake like an even bigger ass clown.

  8. Respect to both .

Witt and the Royals should be here to stay as long as they don’t do pull of a 2023 Twins move.

  9. Sources say Bob Costas escorted a disabled — but determined — Giancarlo Stanton across the field

  10. This picture is going to fuel KC fans as long as Bobby is on the team. What a great pic. Bobby will get a ring someday

  11. Bob Costas: Stanton, who doesn’t run well at all, is walking gingerly over to the Royals dugout. It’s more like hobbling, really.

  12. “Look at that disgusting pig Giancarlo walk over there, he can barely move, it isn’t his fault, but he needs a walker.” – Bob Costas

  13. Pretty cool of Giancarlo to do that. He knows the kid is special.

That said, I am going to name my next child Giancarlo Giambi. It’s the coolest name possible. Don’t try to tell me it’s not

  14. The Royals have made the playoffs 3 times ever in my life. We were so spoiled that the first two were both WS appearances and a WS title in 2015.

BWJ has brought life back to Kansas City baseball and there is a path forward. Just nervous for the future cause these opportunities don’t come around very often. Need to sign some bats, and if pitching takes even a small step back from this year, then we’re a .500 team at best. I’ve learned to very cautiously optimistic with the Royals, at best.

  15. That’s awesome by G. Big fan of Witt (and Pasquantino/Salvy) and I’m sure Royals will be back soon!

  16. Respect for your opponent is rarely shown, IMO, and it’s really nice to see.

Stanton rewriting his narrative an AB at a time.

  17. Bobby Witt Jr still on the rail motionless 10 minutes after the Yankees had won got me way harder than I expected it would on TV last night.

You can just tell how much he gives a fuck about his team, his city, and everyone who supports him and he supports back. Its crystal clear he’ll be in October many times after this moment – but it hurts to see how much this weighs on him now.

Nothing but respect to him and of course to Stanton too.

  18. Good on Giancarlo. He also pulled through massively in the series despite being called washed

  19. Stanton: respect

    Witt Jr.: thanks man

Costas, in a monotone: Stanton slowly walks to the Royals dugout. His legs are worn, he can’t move as he once did. He can’t play the field any more. How many more steps does he have left in those legs? Can the Yankees keep relying on him to be part of a postseason lineup? Or is this the sunset of a great career?

  20. Reminds me of this Wayne Gretzky story after losing the 1983 Stanley Cup

**”We walked by their locker room in the corridor and saw after they won they were too beat up to really enjoy it and savor the victory at that moment,” said Gretzky. “We were able to walk out of their pretty much scot free. We had so much respect for the Islanders players and the Islanders teams that we learned immediately you have to take it to another level in order to win a Stanley Cup. And that’s what we did. We learned from it and often credit for the Islanders players and Islanders teams for teaching us exactly what it’s all about and how hard it is to win.”**

  21. Bobby just taking it in, filing it for fuel for the offseason. Giancarlo is still mighty, and showing some kindness. The end of a great season.

Hoping for good seasons from Witt Jr.

  22. That picture of Stanton patting him on the back could easily go down as one of those amazing “baseball moments in history” pictures. Current legend giving respect to a future legend.

And then that God fucking awful Starr Insurance patch is an eyesore in the middle of it. Fucking hell.

  23. Giancarlo Stanton, in his motorized wheelchair, rolled up to Bobby Witt Jr, as he can no longer walk. His bones were heard cracking as he settled into the chair.
