Will Justin Jefferson be better than prime Randy Moss

  1. I mean, isn’t prime Randy the best receiving performance level ever?

I don’t think he would be better than that?

  2. Stats wise, yeah he’s already there basically. Impacting offensive success and winning, it doesn’t look like it. In terms of being a freak athlete like Moss, I don’t think we’ll ever see that again. Moss had the most insane speed, vertical, height and hands combo ever imo

  3. JJ doesn’t have Randy‘s natural talent, a.k.a. the super freak. Better? Statistically? More touchdowns? More yards receiving? Super Bowl? JJ deserves that respect, but you don’t have to give it to him. He’s clearly taking it. 🤷🏾‍♂️ will depend on longevity and the quarterback.

  4. I think on paper people will eventually be able to make an argument, but the truth is it won’t happen. Moss changed the game. You can say a lot about JJ being so well rounded, but there is a reason people still say someone got Mossed when you see one of those wild catches.

At this rate, people will remember JJ as a generational talent. I fully admit I’m a homer, but Tyreek isn’t as elite overall as JJ. He cooks people with his speed, but even my Miami friend says he doesn’t have those holy shit catches like JJ does. Even in the losing effort in the lions game last year, that 3rd and long conversion to JJ in double coverage with 2 defenders all over him is shit you just don’t see as often from other great players.

  5. I love JJ and he’s an incredible all around receiver and worth every penny, BUT I don’t think any receiver will *ever* touch prime Randy Moss. Doesn’t take anything away from JJ but prime Randy Moss is forever goated. 1 of 1.

  6. JJ is more of a Jerry Rice type receiver. He’s still a fantastic athlete, but he’s more well rounded. Site route runner, elite hands, elite at finding soft spots in coverage. He does everything very well and puts up incredible stats because of that.

Randy Moss was one of the freakiest athletes of all time. His speed, height, and vertical jump were out of this world. There’s never been anyone else like him.

  7. Unfortunately no. Biggest difference between the two is the difference between moss and any defense ever.

  8. I come back to that interview with Deangelo Hall saying Randy would throw his hand up at like the line of scrimmage because he knew he was going to score even from there. It’s like Babe Ruth calling his shot. I don’t think we see that again.

  9. Megatron was more similar to Moss than JJ. Not saying JJ won’t be statistically better in the end, just different impacts.

  10. Randy dominated everyone. He changed game plans by himself. He changed *entire draft strategies* by himself. JJ is awesome, but no one is Moss.

  11. One thing about randy is that the NFL was different then, so he played different. His ability to not just get past coverage get OVER people was game breaking at the time. I think JJ might end up being better over time, but IDK if we’ll ever see peak randy again

  12. The younger crowd on this forum dont fully understand Moss in his first 3-4 years… In his rookie season he was straight up unguardable. There was no defense for him at the time. JJ is awesome and gets open and has crazy hands but he isn’t dominating games like that.

Moss size and hands and ability to grab balls out of the sky is just one part about him that was different. To me his speed was ridiculous (watch his 3rd TD against dallas in 98) its just insane how fast he was at that time.

  13. I love Jefferson. He is nowhere near having Moss’ physical talent, for that reason I would say no.

  14. Nobody was better than prime Randy Moss. Size, speed, skill and athleticism that is unmatched at the position

  15. Jefferson can be defended. Moss basically could be defended. Deep jump ball was always in play.

  16. Only thing I’d add is to consider QB play. Randy’s prime is maybe the best prime of any receiver. He also had some hot and cold QB talent. An MVP Cunningham, prime Culpepper, and Tom Brady threw him the ball. He had some stinkers mixed in there too. JJ has mostly just had Kirk and Darnold.

  17. Jefferson is easily my favorite player in the league since he’d been drafted. He has all the tools & is on pace to become a top 3 receiver ever, and I want it to happen so bad. He’s everything you wanted from drafting him & more. Moss was just on an entirely different level. Jettas aint like that

  18. No I truly don’t think anyone can be top what he did the way he did. He was in an era where CBs were allowed so much more contact and aggressiveness that would make it harder to play WR. If he was in today’s game I truly believe he would put up even higher numbers nobody could stop 84 and if the ball was near him he’s catching it and if it’s a jump ball your fucked no CB is beating him.

Randy is one of if not the greatest ever he was unstoppable even triple covering him did nothing the mf would always catch that ball.

That being said Jefferson is amazing and likely going to be one of the greats but I don’t think he will be able to be the dominant force Randy was due to the way today’s game is played. Jefferson is the best receiver right now hands down it’s not even close but Randy was inhuman like Jefferson but in a way that truly no one could stop.

  19. Jefferson is great, but Moss is one of the most gamebreaking players ever.

Opposing defenses had to base their entire gameplan around stopping from going deep, and it still wasn’t enough.

  20. Absolutely not. JJ is amazing, on a historic pace, and may well go down as one of the greatest of all time – but prime Randy Moss is a threat that you literally had to draft for, create new defensive schemes for – and even then you couldn’t stop him…you just hope to contain him for a while.

There’s never been a more dominant threat than prime Moss.

  21. Moss was so amazing to watch because triple coverage was regularly not enough to keep him from finding the end zone or winning a jump ball.

  22. Wasn’t there a tell before a play with Moss that defenses started figuring out if it was a run that Moss wouldn’t even be ready on the line and then Moss said he plays when he wants to play? If Moss would’ve put in maximum effort he could’ve been even better than what he actually did.

  23. Moss is the GOAT.

Jetts has shown tremendous abilities and is on pace to be the GOAT, but it takes A LOT of years of high level consistency.

Where Moss had elite top speed and a height advantage, Jetts has elite separation.

I think they both change the game … both need to be schemed against. Who I pick for one play if my life depends on it will depend on the situation if I need that height/speed (Moss) or separation (Jetts).

Jetts is going to win a Super Bowl though. 😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏

  24. No. Moss was the most dangerous man on a football field. One wrong lean and it was housed.
