Would love to see something along these lines if the team goes with Yetis after this season!

  1. this will certainly be an unpopular opinion as most people seem to be of the opinion that yetis is a forgone conclusion, but i feel like mammoths or outlaws would be a better option.

yetis are fictional, have no relation to Utah, and many of the designs I’m seeing are a little childish/cartoonish. you could have some really cool designs and unique color schemes to fit a team like the mammoths or outlaws. i’d really like something that is actually emblematic of Utah.

plus imagine if ryan smith paid the utah museum of natural history to put a real, giant fucking mammoth skeleton in the lobby of the new arena. how cool would that be?

if they do stick with yetis, I hope they will choose a more interesting design and color scheme than the current color scheme.

    edit: aaaand immediately downvoted lol

  2. If they go with the Yeti name, it will be interesting to see how they balance ferocity with cuddly in the branding. I think they’ll lean into both at various times- fierce to fire up fans, cuddly to sell $30 stuffed animals.

For the generic logo that shows up on uniforms, I’d expect it to be somewhere between the two, probably with fewer teeth than in the OP.

  3. Utah Outlaws, with a Yeti as the logo sporting an ice/icicle (downward facing triangle-) bandit mask = WIN

Why can’t we have the best of both worlds 😁 a Yeti Outlaw with an ice/icicle thieves mask.

I mean if Anaheim can have a psycho goalie masked duck as their logo… let’s have fun with it yeah?

  4. Yeti is a terrible name for numerous reasons. Yeti is a mythical creature from fucking Nepal. Not Nephi.

The Colorado Avalanche also have a storied history utilizing yeti as their secondary logos. From a yeti mascot to a yeti footprint that they still use *to this day*, the name is a lazy copy of their history.

We can and should be unique. Mammoth and Outlaws are both relevant to Utah and unique. The branding opportunities for them would also be vast and the current colors (which I’m a fan of) could work well with either option.

  5. I really don’t like yeti as a name for all the reasons. It’s so generic; it has nothing to do with Utah and could be the name for any generic hockey team in the world. We can do so much better. Outlaws and mammoths are both so much better.

Trappers, mountaineers, legion, frontiersman, lawmen, etc are all better than yeti and connect to Utah. Yeti is an overpriced water cooler. Yeti is a silly snowman on a Disney ride.

I really hope whomever owns the rights to yeti hockey doesn’t sell and forces the team to pick a new name. Maybe we could set up a go fund me for him.
