Lost in the fuckery of the offense, DJ’s ineptitude and the success of the defense has been a wildly inconsistent special teams unit.

• Blocked FG to win @ Seahawks. So successful that other teams have been emulating, most recently the Browns vs. philthy- which, hilarious. When’s the last time we can say we were special teams innovators? I’m damn impressed with this simple concept.
• Eric Gray kick return fumble @ Cleveland
• Washington debacle
• Cincy debacle
• Darius Slayton punt return fumble vs. Vikings

And we had two more fumbles on ST that Chris Manhertz and Dane Belton recovered, just forgetting which games these occurred in.

Absolutely need to clean this up – not because this team is going anywhere with DJ but because to be a serious team going into next year, we can’t have this shit. I want a Belichickian obsession with detail on ST. Enough is enough.

  1. Depending on whatever happens in Dallas, I’d like Daboll to see if John Fassel’s interested in coming to NY.

  2. Very happy with the special teams honestly. It’s not on coaching that we’ve lost Olszewski, and they (rightfully long term) carried BFW as a gunner instead of another returner. They’ve done okay adjusting since that loss, and that’s not even touching on the losses with Gano, Gillan, and coverage guys like Coughlin and Adams.

We’ve stayed relatively healthy on offense/defense, but ST has been ravaged with injuries. So of course there’s going to be mistakes.

  3. Downfield blocking and coverage is atrocious. Surprised our kick returners didn’t get hurt because they were on top of them before the ball was even caught. They had 1 to 2 gunners and they were always unblocked. That left us in bad field position and well, you saw the rest of the shit show that is our offense.
