Cubs REKAP Podcast ⚾️ (S2 – EP 25) – How do the Cubs fix their mediocre team?

#kap and Gordon debate how the #chicagocubs should fix their very average baseball team. Who can they trade? Who has no-trade clauses? The guys debate changes in the lineup and in the pitching staff. Why Gordon believes they are farther away than some think. Meanwhile, Kap believes a tinker or two can get the #cubs closer to the 90 win team they want to be.

  1. Always Spend Spend How about developing young talent? Gordon would be the first guy to complain if the Cubs spent big on a bust FA which they have done many times in the past.

  2. Need a number two starter and a solid solid bullpen. Kap, you keep dragging the comversation to where the Cubs will never go. After all these years, we know who ownership is. Strengthen the staff, not halfway, but all the way, and tweak the lineup.

  3. Why should they spend? Wrigley is always full, can't add more seats. Look @ it from ricketts side, can't increase profit by getting better players, so why spend. Fans care about championships, owners don't.
Hope the Cubbies are enjoying their nice leisurely October, no stress

  4. Boycott Wrigley Fields now! Who b carin? Wirlin verlin breakdancer froms Crestwood IL do. Amysully wat up dog? Loveable losers forever move to Dalton an b Dalton Duds. Cubbies gots no heart. Next year b da sames ting. MAKE AMERICA TRUMPLESS AGAIN FRANKLIN. 🤘🃏🎸🥃🍺🤤🪦🕺🌪️🇺🇲🤣😂

  5. More bs hahahahahahahaha tom ricketts doesn't not care about winning tom ricketts will never pay superstars to get them is never going to happened

  6. Vlad is definitely attainable. The Bluejays are going full-court press on Juan Soto. The Ohtani drama from last off-season still stings for them. If the Bluejays somehow land Soto and get a haul from the Cubs for Vlad, they’ll be fine.

  7. Yeah 2.7-3m fans every year. And the teams worth 5x what he paid for it. Ricketts and Hoyer have Zero Excuses. We're the Cubs if you can't afford to be a big market team sell some of the team to get the cash plain and simple.

  8. You can't sensibly improve this offense from outside the organization. It's going to have to come from improvement by Swanson, Bellinger, Paredes, Hoerner, and Amaya (keep waiting for that "next step" from Suzuki too); growth from PCA and Busch: and contributions from prospects. But you can improve the pitching. How about a rotation of Steele, Trevor Bauer , Imanaga, Roki Sasaki , and Jameson Taillon. That's pretty damn good and you've still got SP depth in Assad, Brown, Wicks, Killian, Wesneski, and Cade Horton–some of which can bolster the bullpen. Speaking of which, target Tanner Scott and Jeff Hoffman to shore up the pen. Even with Bellinger's contract still on the books, you could add all 4 of those pitchers for less than the $70M luxury tax space.

And at mid-season I'd look to deal either Hoerner or Paredes (your only marketable and tradeable veteran candidates) to strengthen catching and pitching–Mariners catching prospect Harry Ford is the main guy I would target, as they need position players but already have Cal Raleigh. If you really wanted to try to swing for the fences, you could target Samuel Basalo (who is behind Adley Rutschman) in a good old fashioned challenge trade for Matt Shaw.

  9. Getting rid of hoyer who shamed us all and has no respect for our history, culture and honor is just about all that will help. No real talent will sign for a known honorless backstabber.

  10. I'll stop harping on the honorless hoyer, who has terribly harmed our legacy and brought the rebuild that was over, to a permanent standstill. I know most are sick of it and aren't nearly as offended by his actions as I am. But I grew up being loveable losers and was ok with that. We did it and the right way, without shaming our historic franchise. hoyer has no such standards or respect for any of us. After 35 years I'm done with the Cubs until hoyer is gone, then I'll re-evaluate the situation. I'll be watching Mexican baseball next season unless they do something drastic to restore our honor.

  11. You taking about Phillies??? You know their records??? Last 12 years, they finished only first in their division ONCE! 2nd place TWICE !! You want to tell me they are the model you want Cubs to go??? Bad bad take! They finished 90 wins only twice in last 12 years! Cubs had 4 seasons over 90 wins, 3 division titles, three 2nd place, 4 post seasons! Phillies? Give me a break!

  12. Mets?? They made postseason three times, finished 2 times division leader, 2 times 2nd place, 2 times over 90 wins, in last 20 years, only one more post season and division title. While spending like a maniac! You want to use their example and standards??? Give me a break! And they traded away PCA for Baez!

  13. Please, don’t use the recent 3 years to compare other rebuild ready teams with just start rebuilding Cubs. Oh no rebuild? Phillies took 10 years to rebuild, and same as Mets! Check their records!!!

  14. Cubs easily get to 90+ WINS by Signing Burns on free agency then trading a couple of prospects for Mason Miller. Rotation of Burnes, Iminaga,Steele, Taihon and Horton.

  15. The Ricketts have no intention of being serious about putting together another potential World Series contender. They truly Do Not Care. They got rid of the proven successful staff.

  16. Quit bringing in retreads from other teams. Get rid of Jed and co promote current manager to jeds position and hire new management team. Rebuild a trashy bullpen. Find good players for first and third base not potential players!
