Jessica Campbell is NHL’s FIRST female coach

Jessica Campbell is in a league of her own.
The Seattle Kraken hired Campbell in July as an assistant coach, making her the first female full-time assistant coach behind the bench in NHL history. Campbell received applause when she was introduced at Climate Pledge Arena on Tuesday as she took her place during the Kraken’s season-opener against the St. Louis Blues in Seattle.
The historic moment was not lost on Campbell.
“The moment leading up to the game and stepping on the bench … I’m really going to try to honor what it is, because I know, and I definitely understand that the magnitude and the importance of this moment is really important for our game,” Campbell said ahead of the game.

Good luck to her for sure. The hockey locker room is full of so much nonsense that she is going to have to deal with. Hopefully she is able to pave the way for more ladies to get into coaching at the lower levels so that its not an issue once these dudes get to the pros. Either way best of luck!!
If she succeeds, you have to think that within 5 years, she will be seriously considered for a head coaching position in the NHL, or even with Canada's woman's Olympic team.
Campbell did the work and got the opportunity based on her merits. Coaches are hired to be fired and I wish her the best.

I can’t imagine being a player on the Kraken having to be subjected to a woke PR stunt.
As a Firebirds season ticket holder, I've seen up close the positive impact – and respect – Coach Jess had with the players. She's got the experience and the chops to be successful at any level. Period. As for all of these DEI comments, you're just not paying attention, and you really need to get out of your parents' basement.
Man, if they're wholesale moving the Firebirds staff over to the Kraken, and even some of the roster – look out! The Firebirds have been the AHL equivalent of VGK with instant and sustained success, so this staff obviously knows what they're doing. Hockey is a women's sport too, and the skating dynamics and strategy are pretty much the same. So I don't think this "but she's a girl" bullshit will be around very long. In the meantime, she just needs to concentrate on connecting with her guys and getting on the same page. Well done, Ms. Campbell…
