Will Smith’s Load Management & San Jose Sharks Also Take The Night Off Against The Winnipeg Jets

Will Smith was a healthy scratch for load management in the San Jose Sharks’ 8-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Start with the Sharks’ plan for Will Smith to manage his workload throughout the season, including missing games, and why it makes sense for the Sharks and their investment in Smith and Macklin Celebrini. Then, the Sharks were demolished because they could not stay out of the penalty box. How does Ryan Warsofsky correct this budding issue? Next, analyze the numbers behind the game, how they were similar to the Blackhawks game with worse results, and why Danil Gushchin needs to play every game.

  1. Went to the game today thinking no Celebrini, at least I have Smith. And then I thought no Smith? At least I have Eklund. Then I thought no Eklund, at least I have Guschin. Then we took a million penalties and lost 8-3. Guess I'll have to wait for next time they come to Winnipeg. Go Sharks

  2. Watched Seattle-Philly today. Shane Wright was a top pick, but played in the minors when he was 18. He's playing better at age 20. It takes time. Meanwhile, the Sharks will get another top prospect or two next summer. Morrisey was a #7 pick and a top defensman. That's how you build. Enjoy the journey.

  3. It is a very different schedule than the NCAA. There are twice as many games with less recovery time available. You are asking a lot for teengers to play a full NHL season. The Sharks are taking a prudent long term development plan for the younger players. You saw that will William Eklund the first 2 seasons of his ELC.
I'm disappointed that Thompson has not slotted into a single game since he was called up.
