Guardians Stephen Vogt Postgame says #Guardians are hurting after losing ALCS to Yankees

“I’m so proud. Obviously we’re hurting. What a game to finish it on. This group of guys worked extremely hard from day one. We believed, and we still believe we can be better. We can be more.

But I couldn’t be more proud of what this group accomplished. There’s only one team that gets to win the last game of the year, and unfortunately it’s not going to be us.

But we accomplished a lot as a group. We got better. We worked extremely hard. I can’t thank the guys enough for their hard work and the coaching staff and the support staff for all of the work they put in.

I couldn’t be more proud of this group. We just didn’t get quite as far as we wanted to”

Juan Soto delivered a clutch three-run homer in the 10th inning to send the New York Yankees back to the World Series for the first time in 15 years, as they defeated the Cleveland Guardians 5-2 in Game 5 of the AL Championship Series on Saturday night.

Soto, acquired from the San Diego Padres in a blockbuster seven-player trade last December, launched his decisive shot off Cleveland reliever Hunter Gaddis with two outs, sealing the Yankees’ spot in their 41st World Series appearance. The Bronx Bombers are now in position to win their 28th championship, with the New York Mets or Los Angeles Dodgers awaiting them in the Fall Classic.

“I was all over it,” Soto said after the game. “I kept telling myself, ‘You’re all over that guy.’ I just needed to make good contact, and I did.”

This marks the second time in Yankees postseason history that an extra-inning home run clinched a series. The first was Aaron Boone’s iconic walk-off in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS against the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees, baseball’s most storied franchise, return to October’s grand stage with the weight of a 15-year World Series drought off their shoulders. Game 1 of the World Series is set for later this week, as New York prepares to chase its 28th title.

Up Next:
The Yankees will await the winner of the NL Championship Series between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, with Game 6 taking place on Sunday at Dodger Stadium.

  1. Yankee fan here and what a disrespect for all those saying easy run to world series. Cleveland congratulations on a great season and thanks for making us work extra hard to become tougher. LGY

  2. Not walking red hot Stanton should cost this guy his job. Chisholm is hitting like .130. Easiest decision of the game and our rookie manager blew it. Man we miss Tito

  3. I have No Love for the Yankees or Arron Boone(Iam a Boston Red Sox Fan, Ya know what Boone did to the Sox, Bucky TN Dent, I could go on and on) But this guy should be Fired! What has become of Baseball, ear pieces, I Pads in the dugouts, Coaches going to the mound every 2 minutes, pitch clocks, and Thursday night some Ump warned a Pitcher about Eye Contact, I don't even know what the hell that is.Remember when Starting Pitchers went complete games guys like Bob Gibson, Jim Lonberg, Tom Seaver and on and on, The Red sox had a reliever Dick Radatz who pitched 16 innings in 1 game, then he became a closer, Yankees had Mariano River The Sandman reliever /closer. MLB better bring back real BaseBall or they will lose Fans along with the NFL

  4. Vogt is a phenomenal manager. Just about every button he pushed in the series led to success. He really got the best out of his guys, they just ran into a resilient Yankee team. He did a great job as a first year manager.

  5. Guardians fan here. This was a great series indeed. We played hard every game and didn't give up..The Yankees earned there way to the world series with clutch homeruns and some great pitching when needed. We just didn't drive in key runs in key moments and our bullpen gave up some homeruns bit im still glad we had the chance to play in the ALCS this year. Hopefully in a few years we can win it all. Congratulations to the Yankees..

  6. Vogt. Hope he learned from this. I understand he essentially managed with one arm tied behind his back bc of the rotation, but he needed to let his starters go. Coming into this post season, Cleveland had the significant bullpen advantage. Unfortunately, using those guys every single game 5+ innings makes you lose that advantage in a blink of an eye. We need to resign Boyd, and Bieber. And sign another starter. Brito, and delauter need to be called up too. Fry fixing his elbow will be huge for this lineup too. Hopefully, Noel takes a step forward too. Ik it’s said every single year, but this teams future is extremely bright. Barring injury, worst of luck to New York. Was a super fun series despite the amount of games played. GGS🤝 “

  7. Rocchio's "dropped balls" in tonight's game and earlier in the series make me wonder if they are deliberate and merit questioning for all intent and purposes. Is Rocchio "throwing the game" for the sake of Vegas?

  8. Losing is never a good feeling but bounce back stronger than ever. As a Yankee fan, your team did not make it easy for them to win. Stand proud. Let's go Yankees

  9. Yankee fan here. Competitive series. Really impressed with Clevelands player development the last couple of years. They built this team from within, guys like Rocchio and Noel plus they got the 1st overall pick in 24 on the way, really good 1st base prospect in Cj kayfus who will be up next year. Really solid organization.

  10. NY Yankees Fan = Cleveland has my Respect. We beat a Great Team that should be very Proud. They fought us hard. I love their grit. I wish my Dallas Cowboys had that-level of Fight & Passion. Great manager and tuff-players over there. oNe LovE from NYC

  11. Yankee fan for 36 years. That series was one of the best I’ve ever seen. Guardians played great and they should be really proud of the effort. Series could have easily gone the other way. Big G was so clutch. Soto and Torres were awesome all series. Nobody from Cleveland should have their head down today. Be proud of your boys!

  12. Guards played their hearts out and broke mine when they lost to the aragont, overpaid Yankee players. Cant wait for spring training to watch them play again. God love em😢❤
