‘Bulls***’: Myles Garrett, other Browns ‘ashamed’ at Deshaun Watson injury reaction
Chris Easterling
Akron Beacon Journal

CLEVELAND — The fact his starting quarterback was on the ground having suffered what was likely a season-ending injury was one thing for Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.

But what Garrett felt after Deshaun Watson went down in the second quarter of Sunday’s 21-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with an Achilles injury was compounded by something else.

“It was harder with the reaction that the fans gave,” Garrett said. “Whether it’s an opponent that goes down or one of our own, we don’t boo the guys that are injured on the field, especially with the extent with the cart comes out. We should be ashamed of ourselves as Browns and as fans to boo anyone and their downfall. To be season-altering, career-altering injury, man’s not perfect. He doesn’t need to be. None of us are expected to be perfect.”

Deshaun Watson’s injury is believed to be season ending
Watson suffered what is believed to be a season-ending Achilles injury with 1:22 remaining in the second quarter. His leg buckled and his right calf seemed to ripple when he planted on what looked to be a designed quarterback run.

As Watson lay on the turf with medical personnel around him, there was a noticeable sound of cheering from some of the fans in attendance. It was not the entire stadium, but it was loud enough to be heard.

It certainly was heard by Watson’s teammates, all of whom eventually left the bench area to gather around him as he got put on the cart to be taken back to the locker room.

“That was bulls****,” Newsome said. “I noticed it right away. No matter what you feel about a player, performance-wise or not, you don’t boo a guy that’s down, that can’t get up by himself. So, yeah, that was bulls***. So any fan that said anything, it’s bulls***, that simple. You don’t do that. Whether a guy’s playing well or not, whether you’re a fan favorite, whether you’re anything, you don’t boo a guy who’s down. That’s bulls***.”

Since the Browns traded for him, Deshaun Watson has been a polarizing figure
Watson has been a polarizing figure since the Browns acquired him from the Houston Texans in a trade on March 18, 2022. A large reason for that lies in the 27 lawsuits against him filed by women alleging sexual assault or sexual misconduct while he was still with the Texans, including one filed and settled within the last month and a half.

However, what Watson has, or hasn’t, done on the field has also played a major role. Sunday was just the 19th start in two-plus seasons, and the injury guarantees the quarterback will not have started more than seven games in any of the first three seasons.

Watson lost 11 games because of suspension for the allegations in 2022 and another 11 because of shoulder injuries last season. This year, his first six starts had him in the bottom third of the league in almost every important quarterback statistic, which had the Browns offense in the bottom five in most major offensive stats.

“The way I was raised, I was taught to love no matter the circumstances, especially for people who do right by you,” backup quarerback Jameis Winston said.

  1. I was at the game yesterday and they were definitely cheering the injury, and booed him when the cart was driving off. Doesn't matter why they cheered or booed, there's no excuse for that. Terrible analogy and a terrible look for Browns fans 💯. And if you really think most people vote based on policies and not what kind of person they think they are, you're more delusion than I thought.

  2. Fans were not on board with Watson from beginning When your contract is holding franchise hostage, Watson sold Cleveland Browns a bad deal (worst deal in NFL history). Don't expect fans to react any other way. That makes you look dumb. No issue with Booing his injury, don't want him to have death or permanent injury, but him getting injured doesn't bother me a bit, probably last time we'll ever see him and he's going to ride into the sunset with a very large bundle of cash and will still be hurting Browns for at least 2 more years (72 million cap hit next 2 years.) I would care if ownership and management tore their knees out either.

  3. Whatever. Chump punk athlete is paid millions to win. Punk chump athlete fails to win and you get on your moral high horse against working class people expressing their discontent about chump punk overpaid loser?

Shut up ya soft handed do nothing overpaid virtue signaling morons. Nobody cares. Your opinions have as much real world value as spoiled milk. You are useless jibber-jabbering overpaid numbskulls. You do a stupid job that contributes absolutely nothing to society. You'd provide more value to humanity bagging groceries than this nonsense "job" you "do".

  4. He has a point about romanticizing athletes, but Watson is undoubtedly way way worse of a person than the average athlete. I know for a fact, from knowing browns fans who were there and booed him, they really despised him as a person and wanted him hurt. Now would they have felt the same way if he had played good this season? Maybe yes, maybe no. Me personally I don’t differentiate a player from their character. If you’re a bad person I don’t care how you play on the field, I’m not going to root for you, and I know several browns fans who had similar sentiment and have booed Watson since the beginning.

  5. Our fanbase didn't start going to games until 5 years ago? Really? I'm pretty sure that Chad, TJ, Palmer, A.J. and Dalton experienced some sellout runs and high attendance rates over they're careers. PBS wasn't packed if they were losing a lot, but Browns' Fans go to games when they're losing because, if they didn't, they would never be able to go to games at all. It also helps to be a delusional mental gymnast, like this guy, who thinks Browns Fans were simply cheering because Watson would no longer be able to play, not because he was injured and would no longer be able to play. Boo the Front Office and GM and Ownership. Watson was willing to play elsewhere. Will they cheer if the G gets in wreck and has to take a leave of absence?

  6. Guys watson is a legit rapist. We as bengals fans cheered when Big Ben got hurt and threw trash at him… because he’s also a rapist. These dudes have ruined peoples lives and faced no repercussions. Good for the browns fans for booing him. I only hope they would’ve booed him even if he had been playing well this season.

  7. Isn’t it just annoying as hell that every commercial everywhere is a political ad? I watch an anti-republican commercial then a pro republican commercial then an anti democrat ad back to back to back. Crazy.

  8. As a bengals fan who was at the game browns fans have a legit hate for Desean they were saying some pretty messed up stuff when he went down it was the loudest they got other then the Nick Chubb touchdown run
