  2. Lifetime Yankees fan…
You shone in the 1981 WS, so long ago.
    Hard to believe.
    Rest easy, Fernando.
(Tip of my NYY cap, cap over my heart, bow of the head)

  3. #34 Valenzuela the first baseball player in history to get payed a bonus because in every stadium he pitched he pulled 10,000 more tickets than normal. Fernandomania was a mystical human and revolutsonarized Latino baseball for generations to come. 💙

  4. OMG! So sudden this news! Fernando was a childhood hero! He looked like someone from my Mexican family! He was a role model! RIP Legend!

I hope the Dodgers wear no. 34 on their uniforms and win it for HIM!😭💙🙏✝

Oh yeah, MLB, please finally put Fernando in the HOF where he belongs!

  5. Was dating a gal and took her to a game – her dad HATED the team because they had no hispanic players on the roster – and me taking her daughter to see the Dodgers didnt sir well with him.

Got to the game, got a scorecard and looked down the roster and saw a guy from some place I couldn't pronounce.

He came into pitch a few innings…

    That was in 1980.

    RIP FV.

  6. When the team beat the Mets, I told my wife it was a shame that Vin and Tommy did not get to see Ohtani play in person.

I am sure they'll get an earful now?

  7. very sad. I remember fondly those days of Fernando mania where he was invincible and an instant cultural icon. His career with the Dodgers was so impactful helping to bring this great city together. He died too young and will need to watch the classic World Series 2024 matchup between the Yankees and Dodgers from the heavens.

  8. RIP
This one hurts. I never saw a better competitor than Fernando. He could beat you without his best stuff.
Thank You Fernando for that 5-4 win vs the Yankees in the 1981 World Series.

  9. Fernando Valenzuela was part of our lives and family's in the early 80's if you were a Dodger fan growing up in the Barrios of Los Angeles. He was one of us even if we didn't know him. This is a sad day for Dodger fans. I can see Tommy Lasorda asking Fernando up in Dodger heaven if he can give us one more inning. Rest in in peace Fernando Valenzuela!
