24. I’m with Nick on this one. People mis-remember the 2019 super bowl in an unfair way towards Shanahan. In fact, they were NOT running the ball well by the 4th quarter. If you rewatch that game, you will see that it was after they abandoned the run in the 3rd quarter that they jumped out to the 10-point lead. They only ran the ball 5 times in the 3rd quarter with one huge run of 14 yards, but the other four were 3, 0, 2, and 1 with a combined average of 1.25 yards per carry. Andy Reed said that they were going to make adjustments to better defend the run at half time, and it sure seemed to pay off. In contrast, the 49ers picked up about 94 passing yards in that same quarter. That’s why they kept doing it. And Nick is right; they got the ball back up 3, had a 4 and out where they both ran and passed, and one of those pass plays was a good play that would have resulted in a 1st down, except Chris Jones jumped and batted the ball down. It was just good plays made by good defensive players that gave the ball back to the Chiefs, who went down and scored again, leaving the 49ers down 4 with very little time left. They had no choice but to keep passing it after that. The 49ers played a great game from start to finish; the Chiefs just came alive in the fourth quarter, and at that time, they were almost impossible to beat once the offense started firing on all cylinders.

28. The reason Jerry did not fire MM at the end of last season is that he hates to pay someone for nothing. Jerry would have had to pay MM this year's salary whether he was coach or not, it's like losing money… we know how Jerry feels about money, more important than winning a chip.
