  1. This team sucks year in, year out. New coach, new goalie doesn't matter. Same core group of players who doesn't know what it takes to win in this league. God, I've seen this movie a gazillion times.

  2. Willy looked so defeated and disappointed. Good for him for taking accountability and being cordial with his replies. The whole team needs to be better, I’m hoping they can snap out it, but I believe in Nylander and Matthews. They care.

  3. As a leaf fan, for the team's sake, I hope they get shelled by Boston 9-0. They need to realize that what they have been doing is NOT WORKING. They need to buy into the new system, because when it works, like it did against Tampa, they fill the net and they defend hard. They need to realize that they are not cutting it and I am happy that the new-coach-boost isn't a factor. Every leafy mistake is on display, and Berube can guide them out of bad habits if they buy in.

  4. New coach and some new players, the challenge to get in sync is real. Nothing to panic about. It should be a fun season. They should qualify for the playoffs and maybe make it to the 2nd round but until the Tavares contract clears up and they can address the need for a good centreman and a first line defenseman and confirming quality goal tending. I am looking to next season already.

  5. Auston says we are a good team , yet he is on a team with the longest cup drought in the history of the NHL. The players don't care, there bank accounts are maxed and the team makes billions every year. You think they want to change. I encourage every leaf fan to Google the word delusional.

  6. Matthews, you can't float and you know by now that you need to be competitive. You are the captain now. I believe you will be another Tavares type captain. No passion. Frankly, I am not surprised.

  7. I think there’s an adjustment period to be had playing Berube style. I’m not gonna sound the alarm but it’s not looking good. Just looking at the body language. Marner getting caught on a 2-1, never seen it before. Willy and JT panting in interviews idk man

  8. Put Matthews or Marner in the press box or both for Saturdays game. Send the ultimate message which would embarrass them and they might realize they are not that special. If Matthews cannot look you in the eye he is no leader. He probably wishes he negotiated no press conferences in his contract. If you watch Knies he has more composure and talks directly at you. Make him the Captain. He has a backbone!!!

  9. Much respect to Willy for taking responsibility.. it was not a good game.. it was horrible. There was no intensity or pushing back.. Actually show up in the game and some leadership from Matthews and Marner. Fix it and change something…

  10. If we want a team that responds and competes. Marner has to go and Tavares has to go. The issue is the core 4. It was never keefe. Never Dubas . It comes down to the players .I’m keeping Nylander and Matthews and walking Tavares and Marner to free agency.

Flip that money into signing Sam bennet and Travis Konecky.
Konecky will replace Marner , bennet will replace Tavares for the second line center.

Bennet and Konecky is what the leafs need and what Berube would love . Both gritty, both take accountability. Play berube style of hockey.

  11. My letter to the team:
Wow… wusses! pussies! You couldn't even win a game in the PWHL! You got absolutely overrun and knocked over like little wimpy toys by the Blues. Have you NO shame?

Now, if that short little attempt at reverse psychology doesn't work, then here's the long version (which I'm sure you won't be bothered to read because no one likes the truth these days – but I'm putting it out into the webverse).

You see, the game against Tampa showed exactly what you ARE capable of. You could win pretty much every game, and the cup playing like that. So the fact that you boys didn't follow up Monday's game with the same style of play and identity, shows that the issue is EXECUTION. That means, totally in the player's control. We saw this current style & identity with the previous coach, so this is not a coach issue. We've seen many players outside the core 5 come and go… same issue.

This is a CORE5 issue, and what the core does, so follows the rest of the team (that's been proven over and over again since the core5's inception). So until this core is ready to commit to playing the style of game with the team identity it did with Tampa earlier this week, this team will NEVER move forward. This isn't a matter of CAN'T do it, it's a matter of WON'T do it and if you don't have the passion and desire to do it, then why the hell should I, as a fan, have ANY passion to cheer for you or even watch the games?

I (as are so many of my fellow leafs fans) are running on empty… we've had enough… we can't take it anymore… we've spent all the energy we have cheering for this team and getting little in return to recharge our batteries to carry us through the clunkers that (should only) happen once in a blue moon. Losses, like the loss against Montreal in your first game of the year was a good loss that didn't drain our batteries because for the most part, you played well and sometimes that's just the way it goes. But the last 2 losses are just embarrassing and completely draining because there was so much disconnect between players. You looked like you had never played a single game together, coming off a back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back game, after a 26 hour flight with no food or water, made to walk and carry all your equipment from the airport to the rink, and had the devil rip out every ounce of passion in your soul. Oh, and you hated your coach and goalies. That's what the last 2 losses look like to me.

Enough already. Either SHIT, or get off the pot!!! Take charge of and responsibility for yourselves, damnit, and do EXACTLY what the coach is telling you, and make this about NOTHING else but the TEAM and the WIN (and forget about your own stats, egos, etc). Show some damn passion and sacrifice, because we the fans have sacrificed a lot over the years and pay you a $hit load of money (yes, "we" that go to the games and buy your sweaters etc, essentially pay your salaries! and it ain't cheap! We could buy a decent used car for the price of some of these tickets just to support you, and we drive hours into other cities just to support you like no other team! (places I've driven to over the years for a Leafs game: Ottawa, Montreal, Buffalo, NYC, NJ, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Boston, heck me and the boys even rented an RV multiple times to make a Leafs game in Florida & Tampa!).

You need to take a stand, and make a choice right now. Self control. Take control of your game by putting it in the hands of the coach. I was so proud to watch the team play Tampa on Monday because all the egos were gone and you were all playing as a TEAM and playing the way the coach said to play rather than trying to play your own game within the coaches system (never works!). Scoring dirty gritty grinding playoff style goals, those are superstar goals, those are exciting!!! goals. The fancy pancy stuff may look nice for TV's "Plays Of The Week" but trust me, I remember the team win over any fancy pancy goal, just to make yourself look cool (or cringeworthy, it's a fine line my friend).

So we know you CAN do it, now you just have to decide to do it and never turn back, and if you follow through with Monday night's Leafs Identity, I promise you we'll see you at the parade in June 😉

Sorry for the long rant, but that's 50+ years of pent-up frustration in one post.

  12. The leafs organization refuses to fix whats wrong with this team, and half of leafs nation watches a game like this and says "we got goalied" or "it wasn't our night". These people are like an etch a sketch that gets shaken before every game, i guess. Must be nice.
