Boston Bruins game 8 review: Noticing the obvious

  1. Lindholm has only scored more than 50 points in 4 of 13 seasons in the NHL. He has averaged just over 40 points per season and is a less consistent goal scorer than DeBrusk was who everyone was trashing. Lindholm isn’t doing anything other than playing the same level of hockey he usually does. 50 points is above average for Lindholm.

  2. I think this is what happens when you have one of the youngest rosters in the league. There are going to be growing pains (unfortunately more than I would like). Especially compared to last year when we added JVR Shattenkirk and Lucic.

I do think there needs to be an injection of speed just from one guy. In a perfect world I would want Lysell to get called up or a trade for some like Vatrano, Wood, or Chinakov. We know Sway and the D core can play better based off of their entire career which doesn’t make me too worried. It’s not like we are praying on a small sample size of guys to all come together and workout perfectly. I think someone like peeke needs to get moved around the deadline for his lack of mobility and cap space. I think he has been really reliable in a 3rd pair role I just think you need to add by subtracting.

I don’t really agree with the narrative that we are huge and slow now. Zadorov is one of the fastest D man in the league. Kastelic is up there and Max Jones is one of the fastest skaters in the league. Lindholm was the only edition who isn’t considered a very good skater, but we got him for his IQ and anticipation. I think we are seeing the difference between raw speed and being able to play fast like the Panthers. They need to find a way to use there speed to play fast because I feel like everyone is playing at a different pace than the guy they are skating with which I think comes back to the lack of chemistry.

I find it very difficult to panic right now looking at Nashville, Edmonton, Colorado etc. I honest to god don’t mind the resiliency and just hope that we can slowly build week after week and keep the snowball rolling because it is hard to do that when you start out like we have the past couple years.

    Go B’s Baby🐻💛🖤

  3. The worst part to consider is that they threw so much money away on bloated risky long term contracts to build this roster that if it doesn’t work out as hoped they are hosed for years to come.

  4. Personally, I think age (36) is catching up faster on Marchand. He’s still effective, but you can see at times he’s not what he was a few years ago.

  5. The Gatling Gun D isn't scoring. I'm sad.
Remove the Potrais leash. Top 6 & put coyle with Freddie for the next bit. Gotta lock in the top3 lines even at like 80-85% potential so the defense can settle in

  6. I wonder if it's a locker room issue. Look back on the 22/23 season when all we heard was "we play for each other", "We have belief we can win", and you had Bergy, Fliggy, Krech all in the room. Then after those guys left, we had a little of that continue into the start of 23/24, then it faded. Now….I think accounting firms are more geared up to do their jobs than we look. Maybe a coaching change helps, maybe there are individuals that are locker-room poison (ala Phil Kessel) I don't know, but we don't look motivated or even excited to be there.

  7. Oh, also. Maybe just sit everyone for the rest of the game after taking a penalty Period! Or even a whole line/pairing on ice
Then just roll whoever wherever if enough of them keep being dumbasses

  8. There is no "leadership" group anymore. The Chara/Bergeron era left town a long time ago. Marchand and Pastrnak are not leaders. Whoever gave them the "letters" needs their melon checked. Lead by example? Well, the proof is there. Marchand has gone downhill so fast. And just last month, TSN was reporting he'd be on the top line with McKinnon and Crosby. Well, that prediction has fallen flat. We are so shitty right now. Looks like the early 2000s all over again.

  9. I dont understand, last year the top 6 was awful as well and going into this summer the front office added a second line center for most teams while letting a guy like DeBrusk walk who we are really missing right now (Speedy, responsible defensively, has a goal scoring touch). They even had options at cheaper price points to add (Marchessault, Duclair, Sprong) but they decided to sign Zadorov? Defense wasnt the issue, the lack of scoring was. Just kinda hard to wrap your head around the decision making here. I'd love to see Hall come back and Lysell get called up and given a top 6 role. No one would be upset if this team didnt have potential, but it does, so alas, we are disappointed. LET'S GOOOO, BRUINS HOCKEY AND OPTIMISM, RAHHHHH!

  10. Honesty dude, I randomly watch your videos. I do appreciate every one I see. (sorry I’m not an every video person) BUT this was one of the best videos, in my opinion, I’ve seen you do in terms of your breakdown of the things that are troubling this version of the Bruins.

  11. Lines based on the game:

    marchand-lindholm-pastrnak

    zacha-poitras-frederic

    geekie-coyle-brazeau

    beecher-kastelic-koepke

An underrated thing when talking about how the second line hasn't been good, besides the fact that 2RW has been a whole is that Charlie Coyle hasn't looked as good. This doesn't mean he can't improve but currently I think that's why I'm convinced Poitras should be in the top 6. These lines are without any roster moves because I'd also be bringing up Lysell instead to be 2RW, sliding Frederic to LW3 (or if Zacha keeps it up, Frederic goes to LW2 and Zacha to LW3) and benching Geekie, not that Geekie is bad, just that I don't really have a spot for him. Brazeau looked good tonight, if he slips then Geekie would be in his spot at 3RW. 4th line should go back together, I think it good to try Koepke, but he was overmatched which isn't his fault, and the 4th line didn't look as good without him.

For the defense… I would just go back to Zadorov-McAvoy, Lindholm-Carlo, Lohrei-Peeke. These generally got the best performances out of each guy, and there isn't really a combination you haven't tried… Zadorov-Carlo just isn't that good tbh.

Also goaltending, uh, I'm fine with it. I saw some complaining online about how much money he's making, typical hating comments whatever, but Swayman I think did what he could tonight, but there were so many sloppy turnovers. There was a 2 on 1 on the powerplay that he stopped, there was one egregious pass that lead to a breakaway that he also stopped. I'm not worried about Swayman.

  12. It's ok to be a little bigger at the cost of being a bit slower. But you have to take advantage of that size or it's all for nothing. What good is all that size if you aren't going to hit or crash the net? If the opponent goes in the corner to get a puck, that player may or may not get it but either way it's got to hurt, Next time he'll be a bit more hesitant going in and looking over his shoulder. The Bruins aren't using their size as an advantage.

They never replaced DeBrusk. A lot of people wanted him gone, fine, you got your wish. But you lost speed and a good defensive foreword, specially on the PK. (Careful what you wish for, you might get it).

Brazeau has the right idea, get to the net. Not the fastest skater, looks like his blades are made of cement, but he attacks the net. He just needs to start hitting more, grinding along the boards to get pucks.

Monty deserves a slap upside the head for how he's using/treating Poitras. He is the Bruins' future and Monty is trying to bury him. Time for a coaching change. I've been bitching about his line tinkering since he got here and now with less talent to work with it's really affecting the team negatively a lot more than before. Change before it's too late. The team is below .500 for the first time in years. The Leafs are next and they are hungry for a win. Plus they have speed and snipers. Not looking good for the Bruins and their playoff hopes.

  13. Sit Wotherspoon, bring up Sweezy, who was a bright light in the preseason. Unfortunately though, I think the coaches are the big issue. There's no way these guys ALL are having bad years. Coaches are clueless.

  14. Noticed this more in this game but it's been a trend, we are SO slow. 4th line is the only one that skates and forechecks – wonder why they're the ones creating chances :p
