Patrick Kane and Cam Talbot carry Detroit to win against the Devils, 3-game win streak

Another night, another game getting demolished at 5v5 and on special teams. Yet, despite that Detroit defeats the Devils 5-3, and extend their win streak to 3. Goaltending was again the primary reason, with Cam Talbot making 38 saves on 41 shots and allowing 5 goals at 5v5. On the offense, Patrick Kane came alive on two late powerplays, feeding Larkin with a great pass before scoring one of his own, propelling Detroit to the win. Fischer, Cat and Rasmussen also scored in a chippy mismanaged game against New Jersey. 5-3-0, 8pts. #LGRW

  1. I wonder how much the illness in the locker room has affected their energy levels. Hopefully the emotions at the end of this game sparks us for this weekend.

  2. Kane is the most talented player on the team by a lot. But his legs are gone and he is unwilling/unable to win the puck. But this game when he was finally put in the correct position/role on the power play – the point, handling the puck like a point guard and hogging it rather than trying to make everyone feel special by handling the puck – demonstrated what he is and can do. And what the team needs to do to unlock him at even strength. They need to do everything they can to put him in a position like the one he was in tonight on those last 2 power plays – handling the puck in the o-zone w time and space and everyone set up. Or just handling it in the o-zone period w other guys in threat positions.

Kane should be w Larkin. He has now assisted on all 3 of Larkin's non empty net goals. Kane at 5v5 wo Larkin is getting destroyed. He's turned into a giant liability who loses the play constantly and whose lines get worked over all night. And there is also the opportunity cost, which is even worse. You are not getting what offense you could be getting from him at even strength.

  3. If you look at the stats both teams were close to being equal in face offs, penalty minutes, block shots, giveaways, takeaways, Wings 50% and NJ 60% on power plays, NJ out hit them the Wings. 4O shots for NJ and 20 shots for Detroit. How many shots did NJ get on the powerplays as the result of BAD ref calls. NJ failed to keep Detroit from getting 20 shots on the net which means Detroit will score 3-4 goals unless the opponents goalie is hot. Fisher type goals are needed just go to the net if Joe V is fore-checking. The puck seems to bounce around at times and end up on NJ sticks. NJ now has more loses then Detroit. NJ high lite reel goals right lol! They need to carry the puck out more then chipping out.

  4. Kaner is the only player that excites me on this team. Last season as well, the dude just brings that swag energy. Really happy to see a few wins, against decent teams as well. Don’t like the look of our D… obviously.

  5. Wasn't the greatest game, but the Wings are showing signs of "slowly" putting things together. Now that I've seen them together they shouldn't break up Seider – Edvinsson. Yzerman still needs to address the D if possible at the deadline though if we are in or near playoff position.

  6. These wins are nice. But let’s get real here on defensive play. It’s just simply not playoff calibre and won’t be come Feb and March. They need to dial it in as last year they out scored these issues and the optics were the wings took a step ahead, when they really didn’t. If they are serious about being a playoff team…. They need an overhaul either on the system or personnel on the back end (aside from Seider and Edvinsson)

  7. I’ve been watching the wings since the Ron Duguay days but I don’t watch them anymore because the Wings are boring to watch because the lack of grit from day to day and Yzerman don’t believe in having a fighter to keep the other team honest.

The other reason I don’t watch the wings because of the price gouging app they fleece us for.

  8. Do we leave Husso in GR all season to keep Kaspar up? Current 2 GKs are doing well, so I see no need to change them. Would just need to ensure Cossa gets 60% of the games in GR to keep his progress going ready for next season. Loved Ras at the end. Happy with a bit of aggression. But can we stop taking stupid minor penalties.

  9. The system from Blashill and now LaLonde is horrendous. Since both coaches are trying to implement the same system, I have to believe this is what Yzerman wants. Are the Griffens not playing the same way?

  10. the fact we’ve won the last 3 games is straight comedy. no forecheck, d-zone coverage still looks weak, special teams are indeed playing special, not in a good way. this just straight up is not sustainable, we’ve looked bad all 7 games we’ve played

  11. Man… that game was ugly. We won, and that's the most important part, and while I don't particularly care about crap like "the deserve-to-win-o-meter", we really didn't deserve to win this one. But I'm not complaining! So long as we keep winning, I don't care how it looks. But this is unsustainable.

  12. The problem with this system is they expect the d to carry the puck up the ice if there is an open lane for them, unfortunately only seider and edvinson can do this effectively, holl has looked better but once the puck is below the circles even he mostly looks lost on what to do and if they dump the puck the wings forwards are too small to get the puck out of corners. The only way this sytem works is with younger players like asp and johansen, honestly i think it's about time to bring asp over to play for the griffins, he is scoring a point per game and there is no competition left for him in europe, give him a chance, if he shines in gr i dont give a crap about preserving entry level contracts, bring him up because 3/4 of your d are the problem, either that or you go get some bigger forwards to mix in with smaller guys to win bowrd battles but at this point itd be not feasible to fix this small forward heavy roster, and you can ride this out another year but their lack of puck moving defenseman is going to cost them a playoff spot.

  13. For as bad as the PK was all game, what a massive kill at the end on one of the worst penalties I’ve ever seen called, especially at such a crucial point in the game. Huge win. Love the emotion. LGRW
