Penguins set for a crucial back-to-back against two Stanley Cup contenders

The Penguins western Canada swing concludes with two massive games against the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks. Patrick and Hunter get you set for both, starting with Friday night’s matchup with Edmonton. While the Oilers have struggled out of the gate, they still remain one of the top teams in the NHL and for the Penguins, playing a simple and smart game could lead to success against the defending Western Conference champs. Then, just one night later, it’s on to Vancouver to play a team with plenty of Pittsburgh connections. They discuss how the Canucks are a young, hungry team with a lot of talent and could present a real challenge for the Penguins. Finally, the Penguins announced that goaltender Tristan Jarry has been sent back to Pittsburgh to work on his game and they talk about how this might be it for the Penguins and Jarry as well as what has to come next.

  1. I find the whole Jarry thing odd. I've never seen a player who is under contract get "sent home" in the middle of a long road trip. If it was planned to work with this coach in Pittsburgh then why did he even join the team on the trip in the first place. The logistics don't make sense. Can't help but feel like there's more to this but who knows, sounds disciplinary to me If I'm being honest.

  2. I was at that game when Sid scored that goal in overtime. It was a crazy game and so epic when Crosby put that goal in!! I was lucky to be surrounded by a ton of penguin fans.

  3. Regarding Jarry… I think they’re just trying to re-set him mentally, similar to Fleury in 2012/13. And no, I’m not comparing the goalies, just the situation. It’s clear he’s broken.

As for the timing, I think they just wanted to make sure Ned was healthy enough to get through a game or two. If they had left Jarry behind and Ned showed up and re-injured something, they would have been stuck with Blomqvist and no backup.

  4. Just finished watching the game…OMG this team is so hard to watch, right now. Blomqvist did his part…sure, they scored four on him, but Joel did finish with a .920 save percentage after facing 50 shots.
If they lose to Vancouver tomorrow, I don't know how Sully sees Thanksgiving Day as the Pens coach.

  5. Mike Sullivan sending Jarry home is outrageous and should be a good sign that Sully is becoming a distraction.
I think Sid not signing in July or by August 7 or communicating has contributed to his slow start. 87 the superstitious player has broke his historical habit of signing and it started all the negative trade rumors. Now he is off to a slow start. Just saying. NOW PUT BUNTING ON SID'S WING and make a bona fide top line. Remember Guentzel was traded for Bunting. Bunting and Sid are off to a slow starts after carrying the Pens down the stretch. Dan Bylsma 2.0 has made his decision BUNTING WILL NEVER PLAY WITH SID. NEVER!

  6. This team helps their goalies zero percent. I don’t care about past stats or having 6 assists in a few games. The highest paid players have to start producing in their roles instead of getting beat consistently. It’s a really sad thing to watch them struggle to even get shots on goal.
