Despite Jalen Green’s Impressive Play Houston Rockets Comeback Vs San Antonio Spurs Falls Short

Host Jackson Gatlin (@JTGatlin) reacts to and discusses the Houston Rockets 109-106 loss to the San Antonio Spurs despite a strong 29-point outing from Jalen Green. Rockets getting off to a bad start giving up 38 in the first quarter followed by going SCORELESS for over 9 minutes in the second quarter, mounting a second half comeback and failing to capitalize late in the game, Alperen Sengun getting outclassed by Victor Wembanyama, silver lining of Jalen Green looking like he’s finally taken the leap and more.

  1. Rocket players are just starting the season slow. They will get it together in a couple of weeks. We just have to be patient. I'm starting to think the Iso play is what Ime wants them to do. Jalen seems to be getting a little better at it. The Rockets were good at tipping the ball away and getting easy layups. They need to go back to that. Rockets should have set some screens on Wemby so Alpy could get loose. I like Jabari playing backup center. He gets more height on his jump than Jock. Give Tari time at power forward. Considering it was the second game of a back to back, where the hell was Jeff Green? Are we still focusing on developing youth or are we trying to make the playoffs? Ime needs to go with the more aggressive players. Cam is the man. Don't hold this man back anymore.

  2. Goon not living up to the hype after the $$…..Green hasn’t been consistent even after the $$….(need 4qtrs not only 4th qrtr)
Jabari has low IQ and low confidence

  3. It's okay Jackson. Alp didn't show up today. so mostly it's his fault for being a best player on the team ..(and of course them rockets haters already saying trade his ass lol)

  4. We win if we play better in this first quarter and a half, not even mentioning the shooting that much because shooting varies so much, but just by locking in on defense and not letting spurs shoot like 60% fg and 70% on 3s. If we only had to come back from like 15 or 12 instead of like 22, I think we win the game. We need to find some consistency, again not just shooting but with everything, defense needs to be sound for most of the game because our shooting can be so up and down. More consistent on the rebounding, when we play defense well and rebound well (especially offensive ones for second chance buckets) our offense start playing a little better because we can throw the ball ahead and get some easy buckets which heats up the crowd (even away ones, because it’s a spectacle) and builds confidence for the guys.

  5. Saw something I rarely see from Alperen, he got sped up. You need to burn a 5 that won't come out. I did see this coming from the 4/5 pos. Some tools in the bag were left off or coached out of Alperen's game. Looks like the just go quick mindset has him out of sorts. Too early to tell but the slick passing, pump fakes and push shot are fading along with touches at the key/nail/elbow.

  6. Thats the reason Adams joined team… but he got injured again….Defense sucks… Lack of teamplay immense… dont know maybe rockets prefer a slow start tooo early to talk… But 3pts still a huge issue i saw bad numbers 20/7… I am sorry but u are so biased about Jalen and bad shooting… easy to cook Alpi

  7. C'mon if were gonna be hard on dillon if he plays bad we should give him flowers if he played good, and not only did he do his job, he was great this game

  8. You keep mentioning that Jabari wasn’t rebounding at a elite rate and such.. he lead this game in rebounds.. also

    1. Spurs are not easy to rebound against sochan is a hell of a rebounder, wemby has a lot of size, they have a lot of size on the wings

    2. Sengun only had 5 rebounds, landale only had only had 2, amen had only had 4, Tari only had 2.. Jalen green had more than all of them.. none of the bigs were rebounding well.. I don’t think it’s fair to call out Jabari out on the rebounding thing when he had more than anyone on the team.

  9. You cannot criticise Jabari for taking two open shots. He should've made them, but he was right to take them. If we have players who are afraid to take open shots, it's a much bigger problem

  10. Alperen Şengun creating an asist to Jalen Green but he shoots brick! Jalen Green passed terribly to Whitmore. Jalen Green and Sengun's games are not suitable eachother. Cam is cutting, Amen is cutting inside, jabari cutting inside but jalen wants the ball to himself. Accept this Jalen is not a team player at the offense. Şengun has deficits on defense he needs a defensive coaching, thats for sure like sunlight. another issue is that Şengun doesnt using ball as much as Jalen Green does. At this very moment Şengun has better percentage at the perimeter than Jalen Green. Şengun vs Green %42,9 vs %35-%36 something on 3pts. Şengun has more steals compared to others. Şengun has only positioning issue at the defense and not moving onto opponent slasher for blocking. Şengun has made less blocks than Jabari last year. Jalen has more points cos he is shooting more than anyone else but the percentage is not so bright. Another issue is that everyone is so static and not moving when Şengun has the ball. Şengun is team player and can pass and can read the court and can find the best man. Even those moments Jalen is not capable on strong executes from perimeter. have u seen the post up game with cam whitmore? jalen even didnt give a good pass in the last few minutes, i cant tell at the moment.

  11. Games like this are going to happen, my issue is we have no issue coming back until we have the chance to tie or take the lead, we just lose all momentum when it comes to actually winning, we’re young so I understand but we need to learn winning habits, someone has to drag this team across the line because at the moment no one is and we fall short when it’s close toward the end of the game

  12. There is an old saying that says that there is a difference between "knowing the path and walking the path". I think the Rockets are experiencing something related to this idea. I think they have learned some things in the off season and they are now trying to implement it in the regular season. They probably aren't anymore physically tired than any other team but they may be mentally tired. It takes time to "put it all together", and this isn't an individual player thing. this is a team thing. They started last season the same way. Once they figure it out they will probably have a good run before their legs get tired. Hopefully the added depth will help them do a bit better than last year when that time comes.

  13. Good analysis but I disagree with you on one point. Bari’s on ball defense is pretty bad. Teams are searching for him on switches. It has nothing to do with ability. He bites really hard on fakes and constantly gives his man a straight line to the basket. It happens to everyone to be fair but I feel like he doesn’t learn from his mistakes as quickly as the other players.

  14. Wemby had the bitter of Alfie. But the whole team was asleep so really can’t put that on Alfie. Until Brooks woke up the rockets no one was playing. After that, Jalen caught fire. And to be fair, I think Alfie was Doing his best with a team there was asleep? Just need to switch on from the get go. silver lining Jalen had an awesome quarter
