  1. Watching talent loaded Yankees flame out in 5 games emphasizes good fortune v bad in baseball.
Hot players cold. So-so guys heroes for a shining moment.
C'mon, Cubs. Win or lose, LA & NY were IN the World Series.
Stop dragging your collective feet and get back to the playoffs!

  2. The cubs are not getting Soto. But I do suspect that if the yanks don’t sign Rizzo then they’ll move judge to first and sign Belli for center.

  3. If you want to create parity in baseball, make the rules say that if you go over the spending limit, you aren't allowed to field a team for that season. While it wont help clubs like the A's and the Sox, but the rest of them will be able to use intangibles like stadium and city and history to attract players.

  4. They need to clear them all.

Patterson, Steele and Paredes are locks.

Kilian could be used in the pen.

Mervis needs to be cut. Davis also. They are blocking better talent.

Caissie will have to be put up n the 40 so you can expect some cuts.

  5. Hey guys. Thanks for the shout out. No worries about the video / the ones you showed were great. Hope you enjoyed mine anyway Matt (and Sam, if he sees it). We all share the same general frustration with this team. Thanks again for involving the listeners. You guys make it look easier than it is to be smooth and entertaining on camera.

  6. The organization will do nothing to bring winning baseball back to the northside. They might win the central, but will not win anything meaningful. Marquee is not the money printing machine that ricketts thought it will be. No matter how much women sports you put on it. The sports betting thing fell flat and governor JB taxing the pee pee out of it, is not the money printing machine. Cubs could have been like the royals, not the splashy moves but making the small moves to make the team better to compete.

  7. Kevin wasnt that far off the mark for a Brent Rooker & Mason Miller trade if Bellinger Opts in. They both make league minimum & contolled thru 2030. Busch makes league minimum & in contol till 2030. Him & Miller are an even swap. That leaves Rooker who would cost a Caissie, Alcantara, & either Triantos or Rojas. (Whichever the A's prefer) 3 top 100 guys is enough for 29 year old Rooker & 26 year old Miller for Busch whose oldest of Cubs group at 25. Rest are 22 or younger & ready for MLB except Rojas at 19/20 if they choose him instead. (Or 3rd guy for Rooker could be a Wicks/Wesneski/Assad)

Its a fair trade that wouldn't raise payroll one bit but makes us better & Bellinger can opt in to play 1st. Giving us 50 million or so to get a good SP & couple RP with a backup catcher (Especially after all the DFA/Non-tender stuff happens)

  8. If you want to smoke weed that's fine, but I always found people like Sam that try to extenuate the stupid "look at my eyes I'm so high bro" to be the cringiest people on the face of the planet. What a dork.

  9. Ricketts needs to sell to someone who knows how to honor the market. Wrigley is a museum surrounded by a theme park. The lone museum exhibit? A bunch of 6/7-hole hitters don Cubs uniforms and jog around the field so that Chicagoans can imagine what it might be like to have a real baseball team.

  10. Names to remove from the 40 man right now: Alzolay; Hendricks (FA); Herget; Hollowell; Neely; Palencia; E. Paredes; Smyly (option); Thompson; Wingenter; Bethancourt; Knight; Madrigal; Mastrobuoni; Mervis; I. Paredes (trade); Wisdom; Bellinger (option); Davis; Canario.

That's over 20 friggin' guys. No wonder this team sucks, and this should leave PLENTY of room for improvement.

  11. This should be a telling off season as far as being a fan of the organization. I'm not talking about the team, just the front office. They have a projected 51+M before the CBT after arbitration according to Cots. If they don't bring back Wisdom, Alzolay, Madrigal, and Almonte and replace with league minimum guys, that free up another 6M roughly. Whatever Bellinger does, probably shouldn't matter as the Cubs should look to trade him if he opts in. That's another 26.67M off before CBT. I think it be a later in the off season move because you'd look to move Bellinger to the teams that miss out on Soto and Alonso. If the Yankees miss out on both, they'd be a prime target to open the roster slot and payroll. The Giants will also be desperate as they can't seem to attract FAs right now and Baltimore's new ownership group could look for an upgrade at 1B.

No that's over 90M before that precious CBT line. Since we presume this ownership group isn't interested in high dollar, long term years, I'd call up Toronto and offer up Busch, Alcantara, and any one pitching prospect not named Cade Horton for Vlad Jr and Gausman. That would cost about 51M and only be a 1 and 2 year commitment respectively. That takes care of the impact bat the line up needs and 1 certified starter leaving 40M to get one or 2 pen arms and maybe look at catcher. If they found a taker for Nico, maybe covering up to 4M of his salary for this year should he need another surgery, that could free up 7-11M more.

I'd rather they go "Damn the CBT! It's not like we won't make it back." and sign Soto for 16Y720M, Burnes for 6Y210M, Tanner Scott for 5Y75M, and maybe add in Danny Jansen for 3Y25M. But that's a pipe dream on crack that was sprayed with meth.

  12. I share Alex's tone which I'd personally describe as ambivalence. I want the team to succeed but I'm not convinced the front office will make it happen.

  13. So here is my viewpoint:

Bench: Vazquez covers 3B, 2B, and SS. He makes league min and has better upside than the crappy vet options that cost more. To even look at this another way is ignorant.

Pen: Cubs have plenty of cheap options. I see no reason to overspend on pitchers that are margnally better than self produced.

Jed has lost with this over pay for 0 WAR talent for too long. I would rather he just go cheap there and target a legit SP like Burnes or a bat like Soto than toss together another crappy .500 team

The reality is, Jed has approached being a GM backwards from successful GM's. He refuses to get locked into mega deals and pumps up payroll with overpaying lower tier talent that he can roll over faster. While pointing to payroll saying we spend.

But the bottom line is they suck for a 200M+ team. It is an embarrassment to baseball that the fan base allows for hlTom and him to run the franchise into the ground like that

The Cubs are like any other brand. If the quality is poor then do not buy it. That forces change in the business model.

Why do you think Tom went with the whole compete while rebuild the system vs the blow up from prior? Ticket sales dropped prior to 2015. He did not want to spend for a champ so he played the fan base for chumps by acting like they are in it. But in reality spending cash that you are not tied down by is just a ploy to keep the fans coming.

Good team know that winning games puts fans in the seats. Puts jerseys on the fans. It creates a culture that generates revenues that keeps pushing the value of the franchise up

With out a historical building the Cubs have NOTHING.

That is a problem. When we think of successful franchise we think of winning cultures. Not a ball park. That is fluff
