Gradey Dick Drops CAREER-HIGH In Valiant Loss To Hornets

The Raptors start their ventures without Scottie Barnes for the next month. But perhaps that gives more opportunity for a player like Gradey Dick to shine — who dropped a career-high 30 points on the Charlotte Hornets in a close loss.

  1. Really like your videos! Both the analysis and the presentation, but mostly the optimism.
Too bad about Barnes. 3 weeks minimum is tough. The rest of the team looks great, and that's a pleasant surprise.

  2. I love how he sold that fake like he was going to cut at the 2:32 mark. Then he flared out to get the ball back for the 3 point shot. Its those little things he does, like you said he always active. He never settles for just standing around, he's always doing something. Gradey has great fundamentals as a basketball player, high IQ. The future is bright for Gradey.

  3. A lot of great takeaways from this game. Ball scored 19, and not for lack of trying. Held him to 7/20. Gradey had a monster game and RJ is already avg 25.5(small sample size). Our rooks continue to look good. Although, Battle had his first really bad game of the season. Still missing Scottie, Quick, Walter, Kelly, Bruce. Hopefully we manage a double digit stretch of games where everyone's healthy, lol. This team firing on all cylinders could actually look kinda nice.

  4. It was Scalabrine who compared Gradey to Larry Bird at one point in the second Celtics pre-season game. Of course he was joking, but …

The key thing is building strength over time. He is staying in front of guys this year, but still needs more muscle to become a decent defender. But not too much at once. I always remember how CJ Miles came to camp in 2018 all bulked up, and he lost his shooting touch. If Gradey can gradually build up his muscles over the next two summers, he'll be amazing. All-star is not an unreasonable target.

Nothing against Shead or Davion, but the Raptors need more shooters. Other teams seem to have them. We're only close in these games because of our points in the paint advantage. But guess what: 3 points is more than 2 points.

  5. Time to Unleash a "48 Minutes of Hell" NBA style. Watching the youngen's fly around would be a perfect way to enjoy all the losing, and they may just steal a few, they almost got the last two. Let the youngen's "Free"

  6. I’m disappointed with Burns so far into the season, regardless of his numbers. He collapses on crucial times. His leadership is week. Dick looks like a superstar in the making. His defensive work will improve without a doubt.

  7. Man, Grady has improved a lot with his mid-range and drives. Being able to fake and drive/mid-range is critical for an elite shooter. Teams are going to put a body on Grady as he continues to develop the 3-point shooting. I especially love his ability to finish in layups (0:33), quick pull-ups (1:08 & 2:01), and floaters (1:14). These mid-range scoring will open up 3-point shooting as defenders have to give some space, and Grady continues to keep his defenders guessing.

  8. Es, really appreciate you breaking down positives on young guys – we won’t get many wins this year, but seeing games from this angle is what fun looks like this year. So far, year 1 of rebuild going well.
