Ovi’s Caps Are Pretty Shocking
Nhl hockey today – First month of the 2024-25 nhl season is in the books, and while you can’t put too much stock in the games and standings after october only, Alex ovechkin goals are back and that is great for fans of the record chase, but the washington capitals highlights showed again that the team itself looks great and it goes much deeper than just ovi . Canadiens vs capitals was another statement win for the caps and while ovechkin scored again, guys like connor mcmichael tom wilson dylan strome also showed why this team is so much more than just number 8. That game went from the most boringest game ever played after the first, to all hell breaking loose with a ton of goals.
I'm convinced Ovy will get past Gretzky next year. It will be a fun ride the final few games as he gets close.
As a Capitals fan, my prediction before the season was 93 points and getting knocked out in round 1 by the Rangers again (and I predicted the Capitals signing Shesterkin to 7 years 84 million next offseason).
But right now, I'm predicting the Canes, Rangers, and Caps to all be around 100-110 points, and for it to be an exciting three way race for the division title, probably with the Caps finishing 3rd, but with around 100 points.
In the preseason, I predicted that the Metro and Pacific would each have just 1 team over 100 points, but the Canes and Capitals have looked good enough that I think both of them have a good chance of making it to 100 points. I didn't think New Jersey would make it to 100 points, and a few weeks in, I think they're even less likely to make it to 100 points than I did before the season started.
The capitals are doing so good please keep doing content on them
Caps are a wagon
It would be nuts to see the Caps in the playoffs again but not the Pens.
He's breaking it. And the libs on reddit will be crying lol
PLD for Kuemper good trade for caps
John Carlson deserves a lot of credit. He’s been underrated his whole career with people thinking he’s purely an offensive defenceman. The guy plays in every situation and has shown no signs of regression at the age of 34
Caps are definitely faster as a team with the new additions. At age 39, can’t expect Ovi to blast 50 goals but if he gets 35… that is good enough and he would pass Gretzky next year.
This is the first positive video I've seen for my team from general commentary in years
They allow so few shots, which is key.
"a division with the rangers hurricanes and devils" bro tried to sneak devils in
Ovi will do it this year. Like this comment if you think so.
Way too early for any kind of talks of anything. I just laugh when people say 2-3 more years. Ovechkin will break the record this year and he will score 50! Theirs a reason he is who he is, like him or not he one of the greatest all time.
Nobody expected much
Ovechkin:
Last season he had 5 goals after 29 games.
This year he has 5 goals after 9 games.
As a Pens fan I think it's great that the Caps have pulled out all the stops to get the most out of Ovechkin at the end of his career while at the same time being disgusted that we are keeping Sullivan and Dubas around.
BREAK THE RECORD THIS SEASON SASHA #8
Loving our season so far as a Caps fan. And if you watch the way they're playing, it is sustainable. That's what I'm loving the most as their defense as a team overall is absolutely outstanding at suppressing shots. Just need the goalies to play up league average goaltending and this team would be damn near unstoppable
Ovi was clearly battling some injuries last year. He was a step behind and took a while to get going. I'm sure he questions a lot of things but this year he seems more then ready to go. Time will tell if he still has the juice after all star break but I can see the caps being better then the Rangers and Devils is still a coin flip to me.
What scares me with the Caps is the goaltending. 0.882 for Lindgren and 0.876 for Thompson. The Caps are doing well for now, let's hope they will continue like this, but they better not allow to much shots.
The thread of last year to this year the progression makes sense:
You bring in a new coach and a new system to a team of mostly old dogs, it takes time for them to learn. Add in injuries and you get a rough ride, but in that last final playoff push you could see the system starting to click.
Now this offseason they get a bunch of new guys who are primed to have to learn a new system and want to show themselves, and the Hershey kids that Carbery coached in the AHL (mcmichael and protas) have a full year of nhl hockey under their belt so they’re not still adjusting, and suddenly everything starts to click more
