It started when USA won with France (I mean youngs) and Wemby still remember, it was told few times, why Michelle do not know that?
Only people makin it a rivalry are the media and kids
Reports were before the game that Wemby is recovering from a cold
How do these guys talk about this and don't actually know any of the history behind it. They just keep speculating and don't add anything to the conversation.
It's a one sided "Rivalry". Chet doesn't give an F about Wemby, but Wemby clearly resents the fact that USA beat France in the U18 World Cup, and that everywhere he turns Chet is in a winning position by landing with OKC vs him in SA. Both are competitors, but Wemby has clearly went aggressively after Chet in games and forcing switches onto him. The only things Chet has ever said is "they are cool, there is no Beef, both are just competitors" and the clapback about the headbutt situation last year in pre-season that was clearly an offensive foul by Wemby.
Its a friendly rivalry due to their size/skills and entering league as #1 and #2…. down to the wire ROY comp and they clearly went at each other last year head to head!!! I love it!!! They're both great kids with amazing ability,,, I'm here for it!!! ๐๐พ๐๐พ
The origin of the rivalry is they are both slim unicorns over 7โ who can drain the 3, handle the ball, and are incredible shot blockers. There is a natural question of who will have a better career? It looks as if they donโt like eachother. Curious if they will play nice when they are both on the same all star team.
Wemby seems upset the world isnt handed to him for being tall. Chet seems upset at his own game to the point he outworks everyone else on his development despite his physical talents.
Lou Will is a wanker
Wemby answered questions about this (in french). Said he was up maybe five pounds from last year and that his initial reported number was incorrect and low. The new number was accurate but not 25 higher than the old reported number.
If I'm not mistaken they were competing against each other a few years before they came into the league there's a story out there where when they first came into the NBA Wembys mom was talking with Chet because they evidently had competed before and the mom mentioned how they played in I believe the World Championships 17 and under Chet brought out how Wemby fouled out in that game… and the mom replied yes he did but I'm thinking they had a competition going against one another by that time and it sounds as if he had gotten the better of Wemby for the most part in their earlier years so I think that's lit a fire under Wemby…
The best team in the league vs one of the worst teams in the league with the most overrated player in the league
So Wemby and Pop have decided to let the player play the way he wants in a trial basis. Ten games I would guess. So far a sophomore start looks Disappointing. Wemby has distinct strengths that arenโt being utilized. Height, athleticism, speed , reach are being minimalized by putting the ball in players faces. Playing the most effective way like in warfare, using your strengths particularly against the opponents weaknesses. When obtaining position with speed and agility then rising to and past his full range to shoot easy shots more than hard shots. Film on Kareem, Wilt and Jack Sikma will help with maintaining position , balance and expertly getting his shot off. Once proficient make adjustments as needed such has facing the opponents then catching and shooting attempts.
Wemby said after the Houston game he was under the weather…. you could tell in that post-game interview
this is the rivalry the nba needed and has been trying to manufactured
Whatโs-her-name is on the Wemby train HARD! They called it out at the end, 4-0 is great and 1-3 is bad. I get OKC and SA are in different stages of competing but the only thing that really matters is winning. ROTY is good for NBA trivia nights but championships mean more.
Wemby used to own Chet but now its clear. Wemby is a bust and Chet is gonna be the superstar. What a dramatic turnaround. 14 points then 6? This is not a generational talent. Wemby peaked in his first season. Tonight is gonna be sad, watch him get 3 points. Jazz have the worst record in the league so maybe he will get 5 ๐.
Watch basketball, and you would understand it's been a rivalry for a few years
I'm an OKC die hard. I've never seen a 7'1 guy as smooth as Chet is with the ball. The guy literally holds the ball at the arc and drives the rim like a guard doing spin moves on his defender like Shai does ๐คฏ and I've said many times when he scores the ball and the camera hits him he has Kobe eyes! He's a killer! When he got drafted they asked him who the best player in the NBA was and he said "me in three months." And the dude is a leader. Those group post game interviews started with him. His first post game interview in summer league he grabbed Josh Giddey and threw his arm around him and gave him all the credit. That was the genesis of the OKC group interviews. He just started grabbing more and more of his teammates and giving them all the credit and that became what we see now. He has the talent, the dog, and he's a leader. Chet is legit. And I think all that extra stuff is going to keep him neck and neck with Wemby and make him an MVP candidate.
Chet will actually have a chance to win multiple championships
It's not Magic vs Bird but there is definitely some competing going on between the two, whether they admit it publicly or not. If you watch the games there is a few border line extracurricular activity going on from time to time on the floor.
