Seahawks Study: Straw that broke the Camel’s back for Geno Smith’s job?

Top Billin’ reacts to the performance of Geno Smith vs. the Los Angeles Rams, as some fans rush to the channel to blame him for everything despite it clearly being a total-team effort of sucking on a team trying to find its true identity under a new regime. Murf Baldwin has often stated that the Seahawks need to move on from Smith so the fans can have something else to focus on. #seattleseahawks

  1. Geno gets shaken when rushed by a good defensive line. But he's not the problem. They have a 4th string RT. Center is bad, can't seem to hike the ball properly or block anyone. and the guards are bad – human turnstiles. behind this line it's not going to get better. Now we've got really good teams coming up, and the QB are really good (they can run the football).

  2. Yo TB, if you had to give some own thought what do you think is the Seahawks biggest issue on the O-line. For me I think itā€™s the players not being consistent and really trust one another on that O-line and then we need to get our centre playing proper too many passes to Geno that were either to Genos left or right making him reach for it taking away a few extra seconds to drop back in the pocket etc.

  3. Murf I was at the game and all the fans around me when Geno would mess up wasnā€™t calling for Geno to be benched or calling for Sam Howell what I heard was comā€™mon Geno and you can do better than that Geno. Fans are rocking with Geno they know heā€™s there guy they just wanna see him make some of those plays etc. I told em when Geno has proper protection heā€™s throwing darts on the money all over the field. But when he donā€™t got proper protection heā€™s gotta do a lot more quicker and there been times heā€™s come in clutch. Like when he threw to jsn wide open with dude right in his face stood there and threw a dime to jsn

  4. Geno Smith can move the ball down the field as good as anyone. His problem however is his situational awareness at times especially in the red zone. He gets hit too much & is prone to making bad plays, bad costly plays that puts his team in a bind. Some of his poor play recently can be attributed to the quality of his offensive lineman. Mind you the Rams front seven was absolutely relentless yesterday, but had he not turned the ball over multiple times they most likely would've won. Would've been crucial had they entered the bye week with a win. They have their work cut out for them. Hope he & the lineman can get it together & snap out of that recent funk.

  5. Covering for that last throw is crazy. As a qb in the nfl on 1st down throwing that ball and trying to fit it in is a shitty decision. Yess jerrel got blew up, the route was thrown off, and a free rusher yet geno still tries to make ā€œmagicā€ itā€™s not magic itā€™s forced and look at the resultsā€¦ throw it in the dirt and live for another down. He a nfl qb who making bad decisions period.

  6. Great content as per usush…Can the DMV get a Ravens defense breakdown please???? Idk Why we looking like swiss cheese on D when our offense be out here shredding' !!!! Break em down Murff!

  7. The same coworkers calling for Locke to start last year and then feeling dumb when he actually hit the field are doing it again with Howell…like these people think the coach starts players based on their likability or something and not their skills. After the bye Lucas and Fant are back and we will have an average line and the difference in Genos performance will shock people(I hope. I'm a fan so I'm optimistic).

  8. Just remember the ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl, Can you honestly say that Geno Smith could go offense vs offense with Patrick Mahomes? See thatā€™s what I thought, Seahawks will have to draft another Quarterback this next draft is all I am saying.

  9. It seems to me Conner Williams is putting too much heat on the shotgun snap, especially at that trajectory (helmet high at least usually). Later in the game, Geno was being super careful about it, and it was still coming in hot. With the O-line play, Geno shouldn't have an easily mitigated threat on his mind each play in the shotgun. I would have though Williams would have been diligent to correct himself after the previous week's disaster. Those plays are so huge, they have to offset any minimal blocking downgrade Oluwatimi or someone might introduce as a replacement.

  10. Everyone is low about this loss, and there was some real gross things about it, but i felt okay after the game cus i felt like some of the young guys stepped up, AJ had a good game, Spoon looked pretty good made some good plays on the ball, Big Cat was dominant, JSN shoulda had 250, Jones IV looked like the real deal. I felt about as good as you can after a loss because of those thingsā€¦ the biggest disappointments to me were woolen after the pick, and the OL outside of cross, and even he gave up a sack.

  11. Show me one QB that will give you more production than Geno for the money. People need to stfu about Geno not being good. Dude gets into the MVP conversation when he gets to play behind even an average Oline. Jonathan Vilma on the other hand can suck a d*ck.

    Love the content Murph!

  12. Good stuff! They REALLY need to get some of those injured offensive lineman back. There's just no other way around it. If you can't run, you die. We died yesterday. We should've smoked the Rams especially when they did us a solid by getting Puka ejected…I don't want to know what Stafford would've done to this defense with Puka as well as everybody else. We had so many opportunities. Every mistake possible was made. I hope they maybe bring in Oluwatimi after the bye week? I don't know. I'm at a loss, but at least we're only 1 game out from the rest of the division. Just feels bad. Thank you for always bringing the truth with the receipts! No opinions, straight facts!

  13. The O-line is Atrocious this yr. And this has been the worst center I have seen in recent yrs. They need to make drafting quality O-line one of the priorities next draft imo. Good analysis and insights as always Murf!šŸ‘šŸ½

  14. Thank you for your content sir. This game showed good and bad. But most importantly it showed resiliency, which this man does not get enough credit for. Alot of the casuals dont understand how fast things develop on that field. Even the last int was a designed play. If Jerrel does what he was supposed to do Varner beats that one defender and probably debos himself to a first down. You cant wait based on the way the play is designed it was designed to not allow the linebacker to have time to react. This Oline is so bad its causing the qb to have to make these quick decision throws. Geno was cooking after the last Int, 4 runs in a row in OT was a bad call by Grub, considering the inept play of the oline. You only run 4 times if you playing for the field goal which they didnā€™t kick. The 2nd Int the qb was hit, too. Keep comin Geno!

  15. It's time to recognize that we need to move on. This guy can't win division games. Seattle should not extend this guy. I respect his comeback but we need reset the position.

  16. Thanks again for the content, Murph! As a Seahawks fan living in Seattle, it's disheartening to see how many fans blame a team with a trash O-line, zero run game, no ability to stop the run and a brand-new coaching staff all on Geno… looking forward to the podcast!

  17. Geno is a Legit starter on a lot of other teams, not just Seattle. People have bad games against great competition. We need better LB play, Studs and legit animals. The play from the Defense is the most disappointing. Coby Bryant and a few of the OLBs are playing lights out. I think Spoon and Riq are good but have some great hits and big misses. The MLB core would have faired better with Wags and Brooks…. But here we are. The draft is going to be important for us. Or MLB needs to be addressed with some big hitters. Our interior is still weak. Need to go back and play a 4-3 with the talent in this roster. The current 3-4 style of D is beaten up by good tailbacks. The o line makes it to our 2nd level too quickly, not enough meat in the interior dedicated to the first few gaps. Spread out too thin for our style of d-line men. This rosters speed would excel in the Urlacher Bears / Pete 4-3 style of Defense. Our DBs are amazing, our LBs could be hidden more with a 4-3. Willams, Reed, Murphy, Dremont starting dline (adjustable) Hall, EJones,Mafe as the starting lbs and then Woolen, Spoon, Bryant, Love Playing as the DBs (adjustable) the Roster we currently have would run better in a 4-3. We gotta figure this out.

  18. Thank you so much for breaking this down… From what I was reading online, I thought I was the only one who was seeing the same things that you're pointing out. I thought Geno played a really good game. He just had some awful luck… He can't rely on his offensive line and it's getting to him. He's getting happy feet sometimes… And I can't say I blame him!
    Thanx again!!!
