Sam Darnold & Minnesota Vikings take down Indianapolis Colts & Joe Flacco on SNF | 3 & Out

John Middlekauff returns to react to a loaded NFL Sunday, capped by Sam Darnold, Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings taking down Joe Flacco’s Indianapolis Colts 21-13. Middlekauff breaks down Sam Darnold’s impressive performance and wonders if there might be a quarterback controversy brewing in the Twin Cities between the former USC QB and first-round pick JJ McCarthy. Middlekauff goes off on how the position of quarterback is in a unique spot compared to the rest of the NFL’s skill players and details how Sam Darnold’s impressive performances could pose problems for former Michigan man JJ McCarthy when he returns from injury next season. Then, John gives Justin Jefferson the title as the NFL’s BEST Wide Receiver and explains why the former LSU national champion is at the peak of his powers leading a potent Vikings offense “built to win right now.” Next, John dives into the Detroit Lions dismantling Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. Middlekauff GOES OFF on Jordan Love and explains why pundits, himself included, might have anointed the Packers QB a bit too early, and compares him to legendary Green Bay QBs Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Next, John blasts Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence and Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams after another disappointing performance from both highly-touted QBs. After, John gives his thoughts on Tom Brady’s broadcast restrictions and how it affects the product when the former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB cannot criticize poor officiating. Then, John eviscerates Matt Eberflus and the Chicago Bears after getting destroyed by the Arizona Cardinals and salutes Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders after another divisional win. Finally, John recaps the rest of the action around the NFL.

  1. The issue is Darnold turns the ball over regularly. He still misses Addison quite a bit if you re-watch games. I think JJ should be the starter next season but keep Sam as a backup for one more season

  2. The reality is that Tom Brady shouldn’t have taken 2 jobs that have such an obvious conflict of interest between the 2. Ultimately Brady is the one at fault, no matter how much people want to defend him. And also no Brady can NOT call Andy Reid or any other coach in the league, or any player, unless they play for the Raiders. That’s called tampering, and Brady being an owner now means he cant do it.

  3. I think qbs need multiple years of sustained production or growth before you consider paying them. Cj stroud has looked shaky this year. Jordan love had essentially half a season of good games and was anointed a top 5 qb and paid as such.

Tua and trevor accomplished nothing and got paid.

Hopefully the qb market regresses. I think 40 million is the price for good but not great qbs. And there are only like 5-6 great ones.

  4. I mean why do teams feel they have to reset market? Cause with two franchise tags and a qb that hasn’t made much money, no one is turning down a kirk cousins deal of 40 million a year for 4 years. Gives you plenty of time to restructure if you wish

  5. Darnold is a good average QB. You don't build around him. If you have a great team he can get you to the playoffs but he's not top tier. If he'll come back for 15-20 mil then he's worth it. No way you give him the Baker contract

  6. I respect your game analysis, I’m wondering John, Whats the point of bringing up Dave Canales past porn addiction? At least he has owned it, unlike a lot of guys who do it in secret. If he was a winning coach, you probably wouldn’t be bringing that up. Stick to 🏈 please.

  7. Packers paid Jordan Love all that money now he's looking like some cheeks. He throws off his backfoot too much and he makes bonehead mistakes. 7 INT's in 7 games is crazy

  8. Love the show and most of your takes man! I disagree with your take on bosses though. I understand in some industries it is just get the job done, but development is so important for leaders to prioritize. Otherwise the future is bleak.

  9. Why is it so hard to just admit you were wrong about the Colts being better with Flacco? The whole media including you dont watch Colts games. That offense looked horrible last night.

  10. I think branch got thrown out cuz he was doing the 'rocking the baby' celebration, kind of taunting that he may have knocked the guy out. That's not cool. I didn't have a problem with the hit, or even flagging the hit. I think it was him mocking the guy

  11. Hi John, I want to get into podcasting/football media. I was wondering if you had any openings that I could apply for. I’ve been following you for years and an opportunity to work for you, even unpaid, would be amazing.

  12. The Lions are a complete team they win the line of scrimmage and that's so important especially in bad weather. I'm not a Lions fan but i have a lot of respect for the way they play. 💯🇺🇸

  13. Hypothetically what if the vikings don’t bring back Darnold? I know this would probably not happen since he just got a big bag but what if the cowboys traded Dak to the Raiders for Crosby & Signed Darnold. They could get a high draft pick if they keep sucking and possibly get Travis Hunter, Sanders, or someone else & just start building a better team around the pieces they have. Cowboys should definitely be selling

  14. Love the take on Darnold and McCarthy. So many Viking fans commenting on other pods that they can’t wait until next year with JJ. There are never any guarantees. No one knows how JJ will truly be next year, but you have a team right now! It took Cousins half a season to learn KOC’s offense and Darnold is just approaching the halfway point. He’s going to continue improving. The Vikings can become real dangerous if they add a known quantity at DT or CB by tomorrow.
