New Orleans Saints Head Coach Search Should Begin With Ben Johnson | 9 Candidates To Know

The New Orleans Saints have fired Dennis Allen, and the search for a new head coach is on. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be the league’s top candidate. Meanwhile, defensive-minded options like Brian Flores from the Minnesota Vikings and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel are also on the table.

Familiar faces such as Aaron Glenn, Joe Brady, and Jon Gruden are possible, though the Saints may want to go for more unfamiliar options. Interim head coach Darren Rizzi’s future hinges on the team’s performance in the final eight games, but he should be able to coach his way into serious consideration at all.

  1. Why would an aspiring coach like Aaron Glenn turn down a a head coaching job? Thats a bad take. Its already hard to get a look at, especially as a minority. He has put in his time and is successful with a pretty good team as their Defensive coordinator. Come on man.

  2. What racist comments? Dude did any Black player or Hispanic player ever say he said a racist word to any of them. In the email was there a racist word or comment? Please stop with that nonsense.

  3. How are we going to find a young talented HC that's willing to put up with Mickey's delusional bullshit? Unless Mickey is taken out of the equation, we have no chance of tearing down and rebuilding this mess of a franchise.

  4. Ben johnson, Todd monken would both be awesome. BUT there's no chance they take the job man. Definitely not with Loomis still here. Loomis has to go and our future cap situation has to be handled before anyone of worth is going to want to take this job. Our only realistic hope is finding a diamond in the rough.

  5. Flores is the leader we need. He took on Dolphin ownership and the NFL so this guy is no way losing a locker room. I don’t even think we will be in the running for Ben Johnson. But even if we were I’d much prefer the no-nonsense leadership of Flores with Kubiak vs Johnson whose leadership in not sure of and another DC. Flores and Cam Ward = Demeco Ryans and CJ Stroud.

  6. Personally I think Brian Flores is a top tier no nonsense HC candidate. His demonstrated work and dedication to his craft may be of the highest caliber out of any possible candidate. The current NFL atmosphere is to bring in known Offensive Specialists with developing QB skills but the old idea that Defense builds Championships is still a valid argument and concept. A strong defensive minded HC will attract an equally strong OC. (One Case in point Houston Texans) and as such I think Flores would be absolutely outstanding. No BS. Just one strong focused man who wants to win above all else. Isn’t that’s what we want? To win!! We should all be tired of losing over the last 3 years. “…Winning is everything” Vince Lombardi

  7. No football player or ex football player cares about homo so called phobic language. Freedom of speech is real. If you don't like something, you don't like it that's your proogrative. Each individual is different. Everyone doesn't like everyone. People have that right.

  8. The more appropriate question is: when will the search commence for a new GM???

Not surprised that the “local” media wants to continue to sidestep this issue.

  9. To all the Gruden lovers, just as much as I want to totally separate from the Sean Payton era of coaches, can we also please stop using the loser Raiders as our feeder team? NO GRUDEN!

  10. Outside of the first two games, the current offensive staff has not shown anything (injuries or not), why would any new coach want to keep them? Maybe they turn things around, still…

  11. With the Lattimore trade the 4-13 Saints should look first for a cordial retirement from Loomis, and hire KC asst GM Mike Longonzi. Then hire former Saint coach and Miami Offensive Coordinator Frank Smith. He has been a long term mature offensive mind with McDaniel 49er schemes that he could help Klint install. On the defense side I would move Rizzi in that spot. Then we should hire Jon Gruden as Asst. Coach to Smith and let him help support Rizzi.

  12. Something is off with Ben Johnson. Either he gets turned down or he turns down teams, saying he's waiting for the "right opportunity". does that mean he can only operate under perfect conditions? I don't want him bc it's never going to be perfect.

  13. No to John Gruden. Besides the emails, he was with the Raiders and failed. People won't like that connection. We need a head coach, that can use tight ends like they're supposed to. We need to find tight ends, that can average 60 – 100 plus yards a game. That can spot talent , late in the draft. And who ever is the college scout fire him. We've seen more than enough, injury prone guys and guys that can't work their way into playing games .
