The Day After: Edmonton Oilers 2, Golden Knights 4 Discussion

Connor McDavid returned to the Oilers lineup but it was not enough as the team blew a third period lead after a horrific penalty by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins changed the entire momentum of the game. After the Oilers were leading by a goal through two-and-a-half periods, defenceman Noah Hanifin scored twice for the Golden Knights, including the game-winner with 48.4 seconds remaining, before Vegas added an empty-netter to steal the two points on Wednesday night in a 4-2 victory at Rogers Place.

  1. There's no need to panic. Arvidsson, Skinner, RNH, and Connor Brown all have shooting percentages below 10%, which is going to get better. McDavid also isn't 100% healthy yet. The penalty kill, which has been underperforming, is bound to improve as well. Most importantly, this team has been playing solid defensive hockey since Paul Coffey took over, so Skinner doesn’t need to be elite for them to win the cup.

  2. Team just seems like it has no chemistry. The team can’t score at all and special teams is trash. Bouchard can’t play D to save his life, carried by ek. I know I’m hard on them but it’s tough to have any hope for them at this point… in Austin we trust 🫡

  3. i think nuge should be switched out for arvidsson on the PP – he seems to have a knack of finding open spots in the slot and has a sneaky one timer. I usually never see the PP score from in that area.

  4. I don't blame you for venting and being disappointed in this team. I haven't been excited for this lineup all season. I was upset they didn't sign Holloway. The team has no youth or excitement in the lineup. It's boring to watch.

  5. You are right about goaltending. It seems that the opposing goalies are always making big saves. Last night on the Arvisson chance Hill robbed him. We need saves like that.

  6. I was and always have been disappointed with the Knoblauch hiring . Between Jacksons conflicts of interest and soft quiet Knoblauch the inmates are running the asylum . Im still shocked the players allowed Ceci to be moved , best believe no ones ever waiving a no move clause here , bunch of buddies making a ton of money with no accountability

  7. The team played so well defensively in the playoffs. They all bought in to knobbies system and played it well. It’s like the players have collectively decided “well that way didn’t work so we’re going back to our way” except they can’t generate the offence they used to lol.

  8. I'm not an oilers fan, but I think people dumping on bouchard is ridiculous. He had 20 plus points in the playoffs last year. You have to keep faith in a guy like that

  9. I agree with benching nug for a game or to for a mental reset but you can’t bench Bouchard because you have no one to play on that top pair

  10. agree with your summary, offense is very 'thin', passing is weak, defense (see 3rd goal, 4 Oilers can't stop 2 Knights), Bouchard's day-dreaming, PK not present. McDavid no impact on game, Draisaitl not a lot compared to previous games, Stuart allowed a goal between his flaps. Everybody is confident they can come back. I am too, but if they put in the effort and not blame it on luck. Also training team doesn't show any RESPONSIBILITY, they make it out as a 'bad phase' that will 'balance itself out statistically', which is a pile of sh.t They need to put in aggression, play harder, shot more often, quicker, without hesitation, and all those aspects need to be DEMANDED by the training team, and not be made into a 'lack of luck'

  11. exactly, last night should have been a bone-breaking game from most oilers, instead most of them played as if it were a Sunday-Afternoon stroll. And that for me is poor TRAINER ACT! Knoblauch should yell the hell on the side-lines to correct the team, instead he is acting like a Wall-Street executive after he lost 1 penny on a stock. I don't see Knoblauch's skin in those losses

  12. In last season's Playoffs, the performance of Oilers' penalty kill unit was outstanding… It even seemed that any player could score a shorthanded goal at any given moment… It was exciting to watch such a great display of energy, talent, etc. And now…
    😭

  13. Agree with you, Bouchard played worst game I ever seen him play. At that level, Bouchard should not get not even a 7M contract, and stop dreaming of 11-12!

  14. For the day after discussion you should start including small clips from the game you’re talking about so people can see, I feel like that would make your videos a lot more complete 👌🏼 I am a Rangers fan, but always love watching your content as of late. Keep it up

  15. Someone get bouch some bionic knees or something, like so what if you're slow, you can atleast try man, dude just gives up if there isn't a 337% chance he can guarantee get to the puck, it's infuriating to watch

  16. Its so damn disappointing after seeing this team recovering last year specialty teams looking great and, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED, Oilers were picked this year as favorites. So damn disappointing, there should be a performance clause in their salaries for complete fairness to the fans who actually pay for high ticket prices and merchandise. Again very disappointing!

  17. I watch all your videos and like ur opinions but the skinner take is insane. He was not the reason they lost last night. And he has stolen games the Calgary one, he got a shutout too. The default can’t be skinner sucks. The offence can’t score rn and special teams are not good enough.

  18. Either it's a bad hangover from the loss in the finals. Or the trades have weakend the roster more than anyone expected. Or it will just take a little more time to get the chemistry going, given the roster changes.

I do not see any other explanation at this point. It's a riddle to me. When McDavid was out and Draisaitl had two 3 point games in a row, carrying the team on his back, I thought the Oilers were on a perfect way to find back to their dominant playstyle. And now that McDavid is back…

  19. Take a seat, young Bouchard 😂 we do not grant you the rank of playing in the lineup 😅

That's outrageous, thats unfair, how can you be on the Oilers roster and not be in the lineup😅

  20. I'm honestly beginning to think that the moves jeff jackson had made in the off season just deconstructed what could have been, you know? I mean the team began to boil a formula, and after being 1 game away, everyone would have the same passion: lets go get this. But now, eh. The passion just is not showing, and too much was lost. The most unfortunate thing is that Stan Bowman is not exactly a candidate for keeping the longevity of this team, and probably over time this team would slowly rot away. Knobby, from my view point on mental health, does not seem like the best coach. Knob does not tell players what their doing wrong directly, and based on interviews he is just creating excuses for these games lost.

At least this performance is not all terrible. The oilers are becoming much more comfortable with each other, and are starting to get some gas.
But time is of the essence, we are edging "the point of no return"
Which path will the oilers tread down.

  21. If the team holds to the opponent to 2 goals or less they win but anything more all bets are off. During that 16 game run last season and even the postseason anytime the let up 2 goals or less they won 95% of the time
