  1. Daily 2024 Mets trivia questions until spring training begins, day 11/117

Question: During the last game against the Royals this season, a Mets player got an infield hit with the bases loaded and 2 outs to score the first run of the game. Who?

Answer: >!Harrison Bader. After both teams failed to score in the first 7 innings, with the bases loaded, Bader hits a soft ground ball to the third baseman with no throw to score the first run of the game. Nimmo walked to score another run that inning. Edwin Diaz got the save in the 9th, despite a solo HR, to win the game 2-1, clinching their third series win in a row since starting 0-5, and 1 win under .500.!<

  2. Here’s my daily thoughts on the Juan Soto free agency:

If the Mets do offer him a 14 Year $700M deal, with a $50M AAV, that’s their way of saying, “Financially and professionally, we want you more than any other team, and no other team will match this offer. You will be the face of this franchise, for the rest of your career, and you will always have a winning team around you.”

I still stand that 14 Years at $651M ($46.5M AAV) will be enough, as I don’t see that Yankees, Blue Jays, Phillies, Nationals, or any other team, offering him $50M over $600. It doesn’t feel realistic to me.

  3. Anybody have thoughts on Sasaki? How does he compare to say, Yamamoto, during their time in Japan and the NPB?

  4. Dodgers announced Mookie will be playing in the IF in 2025… if this what I think it is— they gotta be bluffing.

  5. The more Soto is projected to the Mets, the more I’m convinced the baseball gods are gonna screw us over.

  6. So if we sign Soto, I think we should platoon him at RF/DH with Marte for his last contract year. CF belongs to Tyrone and whoever we can add in free agency until Gilbert shows up.

The infield for me doesn’t seem to have a clear cut path at the moment.

Say we keep Pete, that’s every base covered.

We have 3 guys who need MLB time fairly soon. That being Baty, Mauricio and Acuna. I think it’s an easy decision to start Acuna in AAA just to hone him in some more, but he will be coming VERY soon.

Mauricio will need more AAA action to get used to his knee, but he’s MLB ready. He could play second I’m sure and be stellar, but that’s McNeils position.

Baty is an unknown because he lost his job to Vientos but let’s say he locks it in and ends up living up to his potential, where does he go?

I’m not used to having such an influx of infielders.

I think we have to keep Pete, he clearly is a big part of this team and I think he has more value here than we give him credit for.

I’m fine with Vientos at 3rd. He can fix his D, and he could also end up at 1st one day.

Mauricio and McNeil splitting 2nd seems fair come Mauricio’s time back in the MLB.

Acuna needs more time at AAA, they can easily deal with that later.

I just really think Baty is the odd man out and McNeil eventually gets traded.

Idk I’ve never thought we would have a ton of talent that we don’t know what to do with.

  7. Vientos should DH next year. Acuna at 2nd, sign Bregman to play 3rd. Also sign Joc Pederson and have him DH platoon with Marte.

  8. between GENY and nym_news getting absolutely roasted to oblivion on social media in the last year, really makes me want to start a reliable mets instagram/twitter account but actual news probably isnt sexy enough to get engagement

  9. Saw some rumors of Hoffman being open to starting. He has 4 plus pitches, it sounds like a high upside limited risk move. We should sign him and if it doesn’t work out as a starter we move him back to the Pen. Seems like a win win.

  10. > [Rodriguez] According to my sources, the Mets have made an offer of over $160M for a period of 7 years to Willy Adames. Their intention is for him to play third base; however, Adames is not convinced, as he prefers SS. He has not made a decision yet, and so far, he also has a proposal from LAD

Thought this was interesting, though I don’t know who the source is really

  11. I know it would never happen but imagine Adames, Pete AND Soto?

That’d be an absolutely nasty lineup.

  12. I’d be comfortable with a line up of

    Lindor – SS
    Nimmo -LF
    Soto – RF
    Alonso – 1B
    Vientos – DH
    Adames – 3B
    Alvarez – C
    OMG/Acuna – 2B
    Jett Williams – CF

  13. Kinda didn’t expect an Adames offer at all.

Could this mean: Adames 3B, Vientos DH, Alonso 1B, Soto RF (in a perfect world)?

Hypothetically then you ship out at least one or two of Baty/Mauricio/Acuña for SP and a Marte salary dump too, yeah?

  14. Getting a little nervous that all these early Mets Soto rumors are to juice the Yankees for whatever their max price is

  15. The Adames offer shows they are serious and being creative. They intend to improve this team and are not convinced on Vientos’ defense.

  16. I’m absolutely terrified of a potential crochet trade.

I don’t like the idea of trading high value prospects for an SP. TMJ surgery is far too common. I know it’s imperative to get SP but.

But that’s just my projected fears.

  17. Getting Adames would be huge. Improves us while hurting the Dodgers. Also 7 years 160 for a valuable defender and hitter is a way better deal then throwing money at Pete

  18. According to my sources: Juan Soto has received an offer of $3 billion over 170 years. The offer also includes the player option to name Steve Cohen’s daughter’s first-born and two bags of Sun Chips.

  19. Soto bidding starts at 600m right?

Also, I’m very interested in a Garrett Crochet trade. Cost could be Jett, Gilbert, Tong/McLean at least. White Sox would make sense for Baty/Acuña if they were looking for someone that can start next season in majors. Maybe throw in Robert and Benintendi to shed some payroll.

  20. Mark C. Healey on Twitter, is pretty adamant that the Mets have not made an offer to Willy Adames.

Mets already have plenty of infield depth that can play 3B, if they do want to move Vientos to 1B/DH. Personally, I don’t see the Adames fit, especially if he can go the the Dodgers or Braves for a equal amount of money (if not more) and play SS
