Welcome to the day after thread where it's time to 'tell the truth' about the game as Pete would say.

What went well?

What went bad?

What should be the focus heading into next season?

Please be respectful of other fans opinions, this thread is intended to be for serious discussion.

  1. Well: Defense is finding success. Veteran leadership was definitely directing D and reading offense effectively. JSN proved he as a threat. I see white more as a dark horse. Hopefully he turns up next week.

Bad: Offense needs the bye week to sit in a room and hold hands. Grubbs playing calling us good, but execution wise, line can’t stop. Geno playing frantic.

Worse: this fan base is really showing how short of time they’ve been fans or don’t understand the NFL. Entire team (coaches included) are finding their identity. Mike is a slow build type of guy. We can’t rush a couple wins for an incomplete team. I think this was Petes greatest draw back. Always settled for a win now over an incomplete team later. Trust the process. Done right we can have a division juggernaut.

Focus should be on two weeks. We are still in running for the division. Get DK back. Fix offensive mistakes. Post Bye week is tough schedule but doable.

    Let’s be better Fans.

  2. I don’t feel like this team makes the playoffs this season. We are too inconsistent. We may luck into a wildcard spot with help, but even with the state of this division it doesn’t seem likely with the rest of the NFC so competitive. It doesn’t seem that we have the depth of personel or overwhelming elite talent to take on contenders. Geno is very good but keeps making critical mistakes. Is he really worth a big extension? I think not because I think this is who he is. Our OL makes too many penalties and can be inconsistent. Our defense has improved but not yet to what we know it could be with Mike’s coaching history. Maybe like 1-2 good Dline for depth as we have been worse with injuries. Other spots need upgrades too but let’s see how we are at the end of the season. Overall, I still believe that we have the right staff. It’s just one that’s growing.

This loss left a bitter feeling and along with how we were last week, I’m not as confident about this team. Let’s see where things go.

  3. the offense as a whole needs some accountability. genos making too many bad decisions. the oline sucks ass and barely gives him enough time to be successful. receivers are dropping balls that hit the middle of their shoulder pads.

also something else ive noticed is that we cant run screens for anything. players that were great in screen plays come here and suck at it. players that suck at it here go on to other teams and do well with it. it was going on under pete as well. different coaches, different players and still the same results.

  4. John Schneider needs to go.

I am slowly becoming insane watching him pinch pennies on the OL.

Same shit every damn season. It has been this way for a decade now.

I’m likely going to take a step back from my obsessive fandom until he is relieved of his duties. Otherwise I’ll continue to be upset most Sundays every Fall.

    Not worth it.

  5. 4-13 is a real possibility for this team and it’s time we acknowledge it. This is a bad football team that’s getting worse week to week.

  6. Sucked that they really should’ve won by multiple scores the way they were playing but they killed themselves with sloppy play in vulnerable moments.

For the Geno haters; Geno is currently ranked 5th best in the league for turnover worthy throw %. This despite throwing considerably more than anyone behind him and with an Oline that is not giving him much time. He deserves some but not all the blame for the last two interceptions; one where he got hit while throwing and the other when the timing of the play was not executed on a quick hitter.

A good deal of blame for Oline falls on Grubb. He’s not doing enough of the kind of things which would help them out. No under center run game/play action. Their formational balance just isn’t there and guys are teeing off on the other side. Just like with the interceptions, the Oline failure are blame worthy but also exist in the context of an unbalanced offense which is often putting them in situations to fail.

Despite how much that sucked I’m actually optimistic. Defense cleaned up their gaps and fit the run from 2-high. They’re playing fast physical and together. Coby also looks like a legit safety. The play at the end of regulation was amazing.

Offense also had a lot of good signs. Despite still not running enough under center+ play action, Grubb found a lot of new areas of production in the intermediate middle of the field. JSN had an amazing game despite the bad drop early on. I think the whole team in general is actually figuring a lot of things out and it’ll show down the stretch.

  7. Could Connor Williams move over to guard? I feel like he hasn’t been a terrible blocker most of the time at least compared to Bradford. I really hope Olu gets more snaps at center though

  8. People keep defending Geno and it baffles me. Dude has 10 INTs!!!!

    And only 11 TD passes.

    Get real people.

Edit: y’all need to stop using the line as a scapegoat

  9. Offense looked like a complete clown show. If this is the best we can look without DK wow we are hot garbage. Geno does not look like the guy at all. Mentally of a winner is just not there. He’s not the leader the offense needs. Defense actually played decently other than missing some of the freest turnovers on the planet.

  10. Olu, Bradford, and Jerrell are all going to make great backup linemen someday but we still need four starters and another backup or two on the left side

  11. I am going to be that guy and continue to hold the line on Geno.

Weirdly I think the JSN drop pick was the most his fault, was an off target throw that caused a weird catch attempt.

The pick six his arm was hit as he threw. He might have held it for a little bit too long but his arm was absolutely hit. The pick on the quick hitter to Barner he put it exactly where it was supposed to be. If that play is what it seemed like it was, I can’t really fault Geno whatsoever. The issue was that the OL got blown off the ball and Barner had to jump and it murdered the timing.

All that said, the issue is still just so glaringly the OL. If we put another QB into this system, no matter how good, similar things will happen. It is simply not a sustainable environment to play QB in. The number one priority over everything else is to fix the OL at all costs. Looking anywhere else is foolish.

I happen to be a Geno believer and think he has greatness in him but if he is a victim of that process, so be it. That’s how dire of an issue it is.

  12. Our defense played great against a quality qb. Stafford has been the best qb in the nfc for years. The defense could have been better if our offense could sustain drives in the first three quarters.

JSN had a breakout game. We still need a burner that can take the top off of a defense. Unless we’re going into a rebuild, I think we should pay DK. DK/JSN/Barner would be a good core for the following three seasons.

We need oline that can run block. Ideally we need at least two quality guys next to each other so we can run behind them on 3rd-and-1s and 4th-and-1s.

  13. Geno was responsible for 2 out of 3 of the interceptions and one of the bad snaps and you can pin this loss on him having a really bad game.

It’s also true that Geno got the snot beat out of him the whole game behind the bad, bad OL.

What I see is that the team’s offense is limited to shotgun with Geno playing hero ball and it’s asking too much of not just Geno, but almost any QB you could put back there.

People crying for Sam Howell or drafting a rookie are going to be incredibly disappointed with what happens to Sam Howell or a rookie behind this OL.

The season is pretty much sunk with how messy this team is at this point and the messiest unit is OL. To me things are starting to point more and more in JS’ direction for overall roster and team building being responsible for the state of the organization.

  14. After doing some digging on NFL pro, I found that the seahawks are 8th in qb pressure rate while 28th in opponent blitz rate. And in the rams game, the rams blitzed only 10% but got 7 sacks and a whopping 60 pressure rate. Couple that with a terrible run game and extremely low play action percentage, you have Geno playing hero ball every game. Not a good formula.

  15. Went well? JSN and the return of a semblance of a running game

Went Bad? O-Line play, Geno’s decision making in the red zone (Walker was open underneath on the one pick 6) as well as Riq having terrible play in OT

Focus? Rest and try and get the o-line healthy and patched. We are coming out of the bye into 2 games which will make or break the season.

  16. This is the softest team in the NFL, period.

Most of these guys were here for the Baltimore beatdown last year and smoked cigars in Arizona after missing the playoffs. This isn’t the type of thing that is correctable through coaching. Can’t make a leopard change its spots.

Too many soft players on this roster to win tough games. Mike might be able to eventually turn the team into Baltimore West, but not until they’ve cycled out all the soft players and replaced them with the right guys. We’ll see if Mike is given enough time to make that happen.

  17. One of the simplest truths and hardest pill to swallow for a lot of people is that Geno Smith is worth what we’re paying him.

  18. I was there watching every play intently and honestly the refereeing was terrible. Almost all calls went for the Rams favor, the roughing the passer call was sickening. Dude fell down awkwardly to draw a flag as he was being tackled. Total flop. Basically wins the game.

  19. We are in a talent deficit hole. It will take two or more offseasons to fix it.

The Jamal Adams trade cost us multiple quality starters that should be our lockerroom leaders right now.

John Schneider has a massive blindspot on IOL evaluation, both in the draft and free agency. The Unger trade was a warning light, but holy hell, does the man not know what to look for in Guards and Centers.

Macdonald seems to be a better coach during the week than he is on gameday; his strength is in scheme, not motivating players or calming them down when things go sideways. I would love to see him grow more comfortable lighting a fire under the players. That said, anyone thinking of firing him already is out of their gourd. First time HC=growing pains.

Geno is way more talented than this sub thinks, but he definitely needs someone to calm him down during the games. Grubb being upstairs and Macdonald being a defensive guy is hurting him. If Pete came back just to talk to Geno during the game, we’d immediately improve.

This sub was wack for doubting JSN, who led the team in receptions before this week. Breakout game? He’s been broke out.

  20. Did anyone just hear Brock compare Geno to Lamar Jackson during the. MacDonald interview? 🤣🤣🤣

Seattle media is so fucking soft

  21. We are an OL away from being competitive enough to sniff the wild card. Yesterday’s game was frustrating to watch but our defense and ST is trending up which is nice to see. I think Ernest Jones was a huge missing piece.

Biggest highlight of yesterday: watching White ball out. Dude kept us in the game by himself.

  22. Every week we have a different problem it’s either we play good coverage and give up the run or stop the run and get the ball thrown all over us

  23. Happy to see the defense make some definitive improvement against a very good offensive team.

Game was infuriating to watch at times but it certainly didn’t feel hopeless like the Bills or 49ers games. I actually enjoyed watching in retrospect even though my blood pressure didn’t agree. Last week I turned the game off at halftime and took a nap.

Honestly I’m just looking for progress week to week, specifically on defense cause uh, that’s kind of Mike’s main thing. Our OL is absolutely fucked. I don’t see any way of improving it in the meantime, it’ll have to wait til the off-season. Even if the coaching is maybe to blame along with the players, it seems most likely these guys just arent any good and we won’t improve til we get new ones.

Realistically, the NFC West is only sending one team to the playoffs. Look at the NFC North right now. Look at the Commanders and Eagles records. It’s just math. The 49ers are still clearly the most talented team when healthy and the Rams can get hot at any moment. We haven’t even played the Cardinals yet and they might have the best QB and offense in the division. Unless the division race gets interesting in the last month or so, it’s best to lower expectations dramatically and just focus on the long-term process at work, and look for any sustainable improvements to get excited about.

  24. Well: Really encouraged by the defensive improvements, especially in stopping the run. Ernest Jones looks great. MM knows what he’s doing defensively and I’m excited to see what they will look like next year after another draft and a full normal offseason. JSN showing why he was a first round pick.

Bad: Same as usual. Death, taxes, the Seahawks having a terrible o-line. Geno in the red zone is a horror movie.

Focus for next season: Let’s lure Stoutland away from the Eagles, pay him whatever he wants.

  25. Steeler fans acting like they’re gonna get DK after under bidding the last 10 available receivers is funny

  26. I have a solution for the redzone problems Geno is having. When we get to the redzone, have the offensive line commit holding penalties until we’re out of the redzone. They don’t even have to change the way they play.

It’s a perfect game plan that I’ve adapted to the strength of this oline unit (getting penalized).

  27. I’ve been trying to adjust my expectations lately, so I was going into yesterday’s game counting on another embarrassing loss, but I was honestly pleasantly surprised with our performance overall.

    The Good:

-our pass protection was better than I can remember seeing it all year. There were several plays where Geno had a super clean pocket for as long as he needed it.

-the defense were doing an excellent job, especially in the first half. MUCH better tackling and run defense all around.

-JSN was looking like an absolute star, excited to see him continue to improve. Extra points for shaking off the early interception he allowed and putting on a stellar performance the rest of the game.

-we played a competitive game for the most part, and could absolutely have won but for the many costly mistakes made, mostly by the offense.

-geno (despite the interceptions and all-around bad OL) threw some absolutely BEAUTIFUL deep balls when he had time in the pocket.

-coaches seem to have realized the importance of establishing the run game, and K9 did well as usual.

    The Bad:

-CONNOR FUCKING WILLIAMS doesn’t deserve to be on the field anymore after back-to-back games looking like a 3rd string high-school center. Absolutely embarrassing performance from him yet again, with the exact same mistakes being made as last week. I can’t imagine our backup could possibly be any worse.

-geno made some absolutely garbage decisions that I don’t think can be explained away by poor blocking. I can see this partly being a mental thing for him due to being under constant pressure and living in shotgun. But again, throw the ball away. Don’t throw it straight into coverage. QB fundamentals 101, he should know this.

-we need to clean shit up at every position. Too many sloppy plays. Too many missed tackles. Too many penalties. Too much miscommunication and self-induced failures.

Overall, I knew this was never gonna be stellar for us, but I’m still feeling optimistic about the direction we’re going. I think we’ve seen flashes of what this team can really be, but we fall apart pretty quickly every time things seem to start clicking for us. I think this team has a lot of great talent and some serious potential, but we need to clean it up. And draft some fucking offensive linemen!

I think this young hawks team has the fire and the talent to be great, and I’m hoping this inexperienced coaching staff will be able to implement a scheme and culture that will bring out our full potential.

    GO HAWKS!

  28. If DK played yesterday, we would’ve won without a doubt. He would’ve tracked down that pick 6 and made the tackle.

  29. On the bright side, if we suck for a couple of years corpo and richy band wagon scalps will sell their season tickets so REAL Seahawks fans have a change to buy them… I man can dream, right?
