Comment from Willy in the Article:

“Presented with those comments in a recent interview, Adames empathized with Attanasio, saying that he understood it would be a hard decision while repeatedly referring to Milwaukee as a place that holds special meaning to him.

Milwaukee matters so much to Adames, he said, that he’d be willing to take less money to stick around — but it depends.

“I’m willing to stay here for less money, let’s say, but I just want to be fair for what I deserve in my career and whatever I’ve done,” Adames said. “We just have to wait and see where we’re at. You never know what’s going to happen and you never know who is going to be willing to make that commitment with me for a long time.”

  1. I am once again reminding you all that Contreras is dating Willy’s sister… make of that what you will

  2. 5 years 130 please please. I know there’s risk in signing big deals but it would feel nice to retain one of our guys for once

  3. Just hearing him say that, whatever else comes, makes me glad. My attitude is otherwise unchanged lest I feel more pain, haha

  4. One of the advantages the Brewers have here is, unlike with CC in ’08, Willy is not *the* FA on the market, so maybe he’s open to fewer years but an equally-high AAV. If I recall correctly, the Brewers offered CC equal AAV to what the Yankees did, but they only offered four or five (?) years, and the Yankees offered the at-the-time max seven years. I remember reading reports then that there might’ve been players union pressure for CC to take the most years possible, since his was the contract setting the market. Not an issue in this situation.

  5. You know Yeli is in his ear similar to how Braun probably was in Yeli’s. It’s once in a blue moon players choose the city and it’s fans over money, but it DOES happen.

    That said, I think he’s a goner.

  6. still don’t see it happening but at least hearing him say hey you know I’m open to taking less to stay and I completely understand it from his point as well that he has to also do right by him and his family.

  7. this is literally all part of the negotiation process. Agents tell their clients to say these things all the time. Still count on him being a Dodger of Los Angeles come Spring Training. The good news is you can still view him at Camelback Ranch in March

  8. Willy please stay! Brewers: give him a few extra million to stay. His value is far greater than just the stats. He is also a team leader and a fan favorite.

  9. He’s definitely a goner but it would be nice if they could do something similar to Ohtani, without restricting their payroll until 2054

  10. I get that he’s going where the money is and I respect that but I also appreciate that he’s not pulling a Gary Sheffield on his way out of town.

  11. I’ve said all along that Willy could take the Qualifying Offer. I believe Prince Fielder did this once, didn’t he? (I remember Fielder stuck around one more year than we all were expecting, anyway.) The union can’t get mad at him, I don’t think, if he takes the QO. Whereas if he takes substantially less money, they can and probably will get mad at him unless there’s some sort of long-term incentive there (like Bobby Bonilla’s, where his salary was extended out so far, he’s still getting $1M a year even though he’s been retired since 2001. If there’s something in there that gives Adames an advantage years later, then the union would probably not be upset. (They don’t want members to take “hometown discounts” on the whole. There are some exceptions, but usually those exceptions deal with clauses like Bobby Bonilla’s and the like.)

  12. TBH publicly saying this is a big thing because he cost himself some leverage. Even if he doesn’t come back, credit to him for his honesty.
